I am new to this list, I'm so hoping that someone will be able to help me . I am looking for information on a couple of PERRY sisters that lived in McPherson County in 1877. Mary "Polly" Perry who was married to a William Hurst and her sister Julia who was married to a Johnson. Mary was born 1834 & Julia was born abt 1847. Would the library in McPherson County have an 1875 State census? I wish I could give you more information to go on. Any information would be appreciated. Margaret
Jeanne, I reread your message, you are asking about the license application. This is not available in Kansas. All you can get is a copy of the license. If you apply at the Court House you will get a copy from their micro-film records. If you apply to the Old Mill Archives you will get a copy of the actual license. I am not sure what either one will charge you. Nancy
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ksmcrla/ Jeanne, If you will check this site, under records, and then marriages, you will find the one you want listed. You can send an e-mail to ask about the payment. Nancy
Hello - I would like to obtain a copy of the marriage license application for an 1881 marriage in McPherson Co. between Arthur SEELY/SEALY and Harriet LUNDY. From what I can find on the 'Net, I need to write to the McPherson County Clerk's office for this. Can anyone tell me the fee for this service and save me the long-distance phone call from Florida? Thanks in advance, Jeanne Johnson
I need some help with the following Mennonite family lines. SUDERMAN, TOEWS and VOTH. I have very little information on these families so any information at all will be new info for me and very much appreciated. I think that these Mennonite families lived in a township called KING CITY which must have been close to the towns of Mound Ridge and Buhler Kansas in McPherson County Kansas. The Suderman family lived on a 144 acre farm in McPherson County Kansas, on Dutch Avenue between Buhler and Hesston, Kansas. One of the things that I'm trying to figure out is if this Suderman family was the family of Leonhard Suderman b-April 17 1861and Anna Toews. Could this Leonhard have been related to Bishop Leonhard SUDERMANN who was one of the twelve brethren deputized by the church in Russia to visit America in 1873, and seek localities for the settlement of those who, to avoid military service in Russia, desired to emigrate to the United States? In 1876 he emigrated to America, and in the following year he was appointed bishop of the Emmaus congregation near Whitewater, Butler Co., Kansas. The Lord called him home on the 26th of Jan. 1900. I'm also trying to figure out, who the TOEWS family was that purchased the 144 acre farm from the Suderman family. Also need info on the VOTH family that lived about a mile from the Suderman/Toews farm. Heney C. Voth (Hank) and Ada G. (GUHR) Voth living in King Twp during the 1920 US Federal Census. Ada was born in 1893 and died in Little River Kansas 1976. Their son, Milford Voth died in 1989 in Chico California, Merced County. Henry and Ada were probably married abt 1915-1916. Larry G.
I need some help with the following McPherson Co, Kansas family lines. I need a good starting place to begin my research and was hoping that the McPherson Co, researchers might be able to give me a "jump start" and get me headed in the right direction. I have very little information on these families so any information at all will be new info for me and very much appreciated. I think that these Mennonite families lived in a township called KING CITY which must have been close to the towns of Mound Ridge and Buhler. The Suderman family lived on a 144 farm in McPherson County Kansas, on Dutch Avenue between Buhler and Hesston, Kansas. One of the things that I'm trying to figure out is if this Suderman family was the family of Leonhard Suderman and Anna Toews and if this was the same Leonhard Suderman who was one of the leaders in the Mennonite emigration movement to Kansas from Russia in the early 1870s. He would have been one of the members of a delegation of 12 men, representing various communities, sent to America to look for specific areas where new settlements could be located. These 12 left Europe in April and arrived in New York on May 22, 1873. I'm also trying to figure out, who the TOEWS family was that purchased the 144 acre farm from the Suderman family. Also need info on the VOTH family that lived about a mile from the Suderman/Toews farm. Heney C. Voth (Hank) and Ada G. Voth living in King Twp during the 1920 US Federal Census. I have an ancestor listed as Eliza Jane Conaway, who died 13 Mar 1906, and the place of death says Jackson Twp. On the website, I can't find a Jackson Twp. Was there a Jackson Twp. in 1906? If so, was there a newspaper where I may find an obituary? Thank you very much.
Might be of interest for some of you. I currently have a microfilm of the 1885 McPherson County Kansas State Census via Interlibrary Loan, so I need an immediate answer to this question if anyone knows. Does anyone know which microfilm reel Conway would be on? I have microfilm Reel number K-81. Would Conway be part of McPherson City? Was it considered a township? Or would it be on the other Reel number K-82? I would appreciate info if anyone knows, so I don't waste time on K-81. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse [email protected]
I am trying to locate children or grand children of Paul Sargent who was a prominet banker in McPherson. He died in 1980. Paul Sargent would be a second cousin to me. I am wondering how the recording of births and deaths were handled earlier in McPherson County. Are there actual registers or certificates for births and deaths? I am specifically looking for a record for a relative born in 1890 and died in 1892. She is buried in a McPherson Cemetery called Fairview. Are there any registers or records available? What types of records are available from the county courthouse? Would appreciate any help or info. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse ([email protected]) (researching Sprouse family)
I am looking for information on Oscar Wayne and Elizabeth (Fischer) Sprouse. They lived according to the 1910 Census in Superior Township of McPherson County,Kansas, Inman City. Oscar Wayne was a medical doctor. Am wondering if there would be any other info around like a City Directory or something about his medical practice. They lived on West Main Street. Would appreciate any help. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse ([email protected])
I am looking for the records of Fairview Cemetery in Harper Township. I am specifically looking for records concerning a Sprouse (child). I have two names for this child. Either Doras M. Sprouse or Doris M. Sprouse. She probably was born in 1890. I think she was buried there in 1892. Would like to see how much more I can find out. She was the daughter of Orion Lee and Mattie (Milliken) Sprouse. Would appreciate any help! Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse ([email protected])
I would like to locate records for Monitor Church of the Brethren Cemetery (in Groveland Township SW 1/4 NW 1/4 7-20-4). I am looking for the records of a J. J. Jahn. I only know that he died in 1954 and is buried at this cemetery. Would like to find the death date so I can get a newspaper obituary. Would appreciate any help in this. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse ([email protected])
I am looking for information about Orion Lee and Mattie (Milliken) Sprouse. I know from Orion's obituary from the Inman Review of November 23, 1923 that they had lived in Inman for only three months and were in charge of a hotel there. How could I find out what the name of the Hotel is? Would appreciate any help. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse ([email protected])

My friends, Just heard on the radio that the U.S. has asked that everyone step out on their lawns tonight at 10:30 EST (7:30 Pacific) and light a candle. They will be taking a satellite picture of the U.S. and posting it on the news tomorrow morning. Please pass this on to as many people as possible.
