    1. [KSMCPHER] [KSMCPHER} Re Ralston, Lundgren, Oneill, Raffensberger families
    2. Susan, March 1st is the date the census began, there was no place on the forms to put the date the census taker was actually there. A marriage license index has these dates; E E Ralston & Jennie Langren 04 April 1885 Nettie Ralston & John O'Neill 04 Apr 1906 J E Ralston & Lucy Raffensperger 24 Aug 1912 There is also Edwin Ralston & Almeda Wright 24 Nov 1906 Don't know if this is the same man or not. Do not find an obit for him, but Jennie died 27 Dec 1904, so it could be. James Edward died 27 Dec 1979 Lucy or Lucille 06 Aug 1945 [His obit has Lucy hers Mrs Ed] I do not find obits on John and Nettie or children and they are not in the cemetery index. Since we are not to post anything regarding money, you can e-mail me at nljohn sysmatrix.net [put together properly] if you want copies of licenses or obits. Nancy

    1. [KSMCPHER] Connecting Ralston, Lundgren, Oneill, Raffensberger families
    2. Susan E.
    3. Dear Listers, I am hoping that someone may be able to help me locate information on my grandfather's brother's family Below is what my grandmother shared with me and what I have located. My grandfather died when I was three, in 1944. I have checked KS records at USGENWEB, genealogytrails, Rootsweb sources, Ancestry.com sources, LDS resources I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas or whom to contact. I am not sure what records might be available. If someone is able to visit the cemetery where they are buried and obtain that information, or the courthouse, if there are records available, I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee for that service. *Edwin Elder Ralston* was born in PA in _Feb 1863._ By the_ *KS 1885*_ state census he is in _McPherson_ working as a cook for _Benjamin Robinson_, hotel keeper. His wife *Jennie J*. [1866, Sweden] is with him. However, she was also with her family in *1885*, *Charles J*. and *Charlotta Lundgren/Landgren/Langren* of New Gottland. Her family had immigrated from Sweden to USA abt *1870*, according to births of her siblings. They may have stopped in Illinois for a short period before coming to Kansas. Either the March 1st date for the state census was a format date, with various areas being done close to that date, but not necessarily on that date; or they had just married. I do not know how long Edwin had been in Kansas. I do know that *Edwin *and* son Ed *were both_ Cooks_. In the *1895* Census Ed is still a Cook in a hotel in McPherson and they have Ed son 9 yrs Nettie dau 7 yrs In the *1900* Census Ed Feb 1863 37 yrs Cook in McPherson Born in PA Jennie Jan 1866 34 yrs Sweden Eddie J Jan 1885 15 yrs KS Nettie S. Dec 1887 13 yrs KS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the* KS 1905 c*ensus: Ed is widowed, 42 yrs, Cook Nettie is 17 yrs Ed is 19 yrs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In* 1906 Nettie* md *John Oneill* and by the *1910* census they have had two children, one of which had died. My grandmother thought that both had died young. In the _1910 census_ they are living in Cook Avenue, St. Louis, MO, md 4 yrs, and 2/1 children listed for Nettie, but none shown on the census record. The name is spelled Oneil with *John C*. listed as a Commercial Traveler of patent medicine. Also, with them as a boarder is *Frank J. Oneil*, Sales Mgr Medical/Medicine Company. The birthplace is completely accurate for *Nettie=KS/PA/SWE* but *John* is listed as *MO/KY/KY*, with *Frank J.* as *KY/KY/KY.* I wondered if Frank was John's brother or cousin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In *1910 *I cannot find *Ed, Sr.* but there is a *James E*. 24 yrs, as a servant, a _cook_ in a restaurant I do not know if this is my Ed from above info. There is also a *James E* in the _WWI Draft Board Registration_ and in the _SS#, _and dates of birth fit In the *KS 1925* census, He is listed as* James Edd. Ralston *39 yrs, with *Lucile*, wife, 41 yrs. My Ed will marry *abt 1912, Lucile Raffensberger*, dau of *John Raffensberger. * I don't think there were any children. *Edwin Elder Ralston *died in January of *1929*. He had a heart attack on the way to visit his brother *William,* just before he reached Salt Lake City. His son came and took his father back to _McPherson_ to be buried. ~~~~~ I am very interested in obtaining the *death information* for *Jennie J. Ralston* =between 1900-1905; *Lucile/Lucy A. Raffensberger Ralston Ed Jr. Ralston. *These should be in _McPherson_ city. Also, the two children of Nettie and John Oneill, between 1906-1920, who were buried in _McPherson_. *Marriage for Ed and Jennie, *abt 1885* Marriage for Ed. Jr and Lucile, *possibly between 1910-1920 Verification that *Ed. Jr. Ralston* is the same person as *James E. Ralston *[The father of Edwin and my grandfather was named *James*] ~~~~~~~~~~~* *Regarding *John Oneill *and *Nettie Ralston Oneill:* In the 1920 and 1930 census of Kansas City, Jackson, MO there is: _*1920 *Census, Wd 12, Dist.183, Image 28 of 33 _ 368 Linwood Avenue *John B. Oneil* Renting, 40 yrs, KS/IL.IL Proprietor of Restaurant *Nettie Oneil * 38 yrs, KS/PA/Sweden ~~~~~~~ _*1930 *Census Wd 5, Block 53, Dist.84, Image 27 of 54 _368 Linwood Avenue *John B. Oneil * 53 yrs, md 23 yrs KS/CT/IL Mgr of Sandwich Shop *Harriet Oneil * 46 yrs 23 yrs KS/IL/IL Cashier of Sandwich Shop ~~~~~~~~ I think this might be my couple, with the census taker incorrectly recording Nettie's name as Harriet Oneil. The address was exactly the same, and the marriage fits [1906] Thank you for taking time to read through this. I am sorry that it is so long. Susan E * *

    1. [KSMCPHER] Looking for info on Lenora Kirby Bishop 1915-1920
    2. camracrazy
    3. I am looking for a death date for Lenora Kirby Bishop. She was married to Perry E (Peter) Bishop. They lived in Clark County, Kansas in 1915. In 1920 the family appears to be in McPherson County, without Lenora. I don't know if she died in Clark or McPherson county. Their children were Juanita, Neal, Harry, Blossom, and Gerald (Jack). Any information appreciated.   Thanks, Kisha Be a Hero for Hallie!: http://tinyurl.com/2q4beb Help Find Rachel Cooke: http://www.rachelcookesearch.org

    3. Shelley, Below are two links to the Nelson family of McPherson Co, KS, whom I know of. I have also contacted two of my cousins, one of whom grew up in McPherson, the other in the Lindsborg area, in hopes that they might be able to make a connection to the Nelsons, whom they might know. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1918ks/biod/darrahtj.html http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1918ks/bion/nelsonjm.html Will keep trying. 3. Shelley, Neither the Lindsborg nor the McPherson historical societies would even give me a courtesy reply, when I attempted to contact them, so I finally found an address for a great grand-daughter of my grandfather's aunt, Hannah Nelson Darrah, and sent a copy to her. Kris Battaile has been doing a lot of research on her branch of the family and may have information on the Nelson side. If you would like some background on Hannah Nelson Darrah, she was one of the sources of Joanna Stratton's book, *Pioneer Women.* You should be able to find a copy at most libraries. 1. [KSMCPHER] NELSON Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a large group of photographs all belonging to the NELSON Family of Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. Nine of the photographs are taken at studios in McPherson and Lindsborg, KS, likely all taken from sometime in the 1870's to the early 1890's. Most appear to include Rev. Oscar NELSON at various ages including the youngest when he is about 6 years old and the others in his teens and 20's. I was able through limited research to locate some census information regarding the family and have included that information at the end of the email. The group of photographs include: A family photograph taken in 1893 is identified as the "Family of A. P. NELSON" and includes parents likely in their 50's or 60's and three children including Oscar NELSON ranging in age from teens to 20's, the youngest a girl and then two older boys. In Oct 1893 there are two photographs taken of Oscar NELSON and his brother, both at the Rasmussen Studio in Rock Island, IL with the two appearing to be in their 20's at the time. The next group of five photographs are all taken in Rockford, IL, one dated Feb 1898 of Rev. Oscar NELSON and his Church, Emmanuel English Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL. There is also a photo of Oscar with his wife and baby daughter, Onah Vera NELSON, age 1 year. Someone has penciled the name "Amelia" on this photograph as well, as if that is to whom the photograph was gifted. There is also a family group in another Rockford studio photograph with Oscar, his wife, two young girls about 6-10 years old and another couple, could be Oscar's brother from an earlier photo, I'm just not sure. Another photo indicates that it was taken at Oscar's home at 135 East St in Rockford, IL and includes his wife and baby daughter Onah Vera when she is just 3 1/2 months old in 1898. Two additional photographs of Rev. Oscar NELSON are taken at studios in Davenport, IA sometime in the 1890's with Oscar likely in his teens or 20's at the time those were taken as well. Another big group come from Galesburg, IL studios and may well be Oscar NELSON'S wife and another woman, maybe a sister. There is also a photograph of two young girls which may be the same two in the photograph from Rockford noted above, again, can't be sure without identification. Two photographs of a group of three children are included in the grouping from Galesburg, the oldest a girl, the middle child a boy and then a younger girl. These photographs all appear to have been taken in the 1890's with the children likely about 4-8 years old and then 6-12 years old in the other. There are also photographs of Rev. Oscar NELSON alone and one with his wife during this time period too. An additional two photographs taken in Titusville, PA are identified as Hoogner NELSON. Both were likely taken in the early 1900's with Hoogner appearing to be 2-3 years old at the time they were taken. Two other photographs appear to related but have the writing in Swedish so I'm not sure what to make of them. One is a group of 4 young ladies in their teens taken in Davenport, IA and dated 17 Apr 1880, I believe it says "Jill Kara Mamma" on the back in addition to the date it was taken. The final photograph is actually from Sweden, Oscarsham, Kalmar, to be exact. Someone has written "Dad's Grandma" and "Grandpa same" along with and something in Swedish that looks like "Glom y den maden Maria". 1880 census of McPherson, KS: A. P. 2. Hi John, want to thank you for your lookups re: Jacobson. Looks like I'll need more information to confirm the information that you found. Obviously I don't know enough about the family. Thanks again, Karrin in CA _www.Albinsdotter.com_ (http://www.Albinsdotter.com) Swedish family information In a message dated 7/4/2008 3:03:11 P.M. He lived in Portland, OR in 1930 with wife, Luster (born in Colorado, her father born in Sweden, her mother in Illinois), and son Karl, 18, born in Oregon. Waldon was a contractor for the city sewer system. [email protected] wrote: Hej hej list! I've not done much genealogy work in Kansas, but I do know that lots of Swedish people settled there. I'm looking for emigration information on a Jacob Jacobson, born in Sweden, and immigrating to Kansas. Not sure it even your county! In Kansas, he has a son, that all I know at this point, there might have been more kids, but the one I know is named Waldon. I'm looking to see if I can get his emigration date and thereby connect to the Sweden List (which is just absolutely awesome!) and connect to where he was born in Sweden. Also, I think that Waldon ends up in Turlock, CA, but not sure if that's where he died. I met his son today, and he was probably 55+, that's a guess! Any help appreciated! Sorry, I have no access to Ancestry at the moment, I did look at FamilySearch, and there was a Jacob Jacobson there but no clue if it's the one I'm looking for. 3. http://www.cyberkraft.com/maxwell/ This site will tell you about the prairie tours. Spring Valley Cemetery is 3 miles south and 2 miles east of Canton. I have not been there so can't tell you more. Ask at Maxwell for better directions. Canton is a small town, so if you need a motel, find one in McPherson. Enjoy your visit. Nancy

    3. Hi there... I am new to this list. After a conference in Oklahoma City I intend to visit Canton, but will have only a day-- the Sunday Prairie Days ends! I will stay Sunday night and leave Monday afternoon. I'm trying to make the most of my limited time there. I will get there the evening of the 3rd of June. Can anyone suggest how to reach (a) someone who might be a volunteer to see the prairie? and (b) someone who can show me the Spring Valley cemetery? I have a great-grandmother buried there. Thanks so much for any help making a connection in Canton! ==Marjorie Wilser in California, whose grandmother was born in Spring Valley
