I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bertie and Ferne PHIPPS which was taken at the Ellinwood Studio in Leon, Iowa. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with the children about 1-4 years old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding these children: They were the children of Elmer F. PHIPPS (b. May 1867 in Madison Co. IA-d. 1947) and Nellie Marion KIER (b. Nov 1869 in Gentry Co. MO-d.1953). Bertie Cecil PHIPPS was b. 20 Sept 1890 in Decatur Co. IA, the first of 6 children born to this couple. Siblings included Fern Olive; Mabel C.; Gladys Irene or Ine; Mildred Ann; and Hazel Lorene PHIPPS, all born between 1890 and 1910. Bertie married Emery Bayard COLSON (1890-1954) and together they had one daughter, Carol Deane COLSON b. 1924. Bertie died in Hutchinson, KS on 25 Apr 1991 and is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson KS. Fern Olive PHIPPS was b. 7 Nov 1894 in Decatur City, IA and married Curtis LeRoy MILLER (1893-1960) and together they had two children, Dale Arnold b. 1817; and Mary Jo MILLER b. 1920. Fern died 24 Apr 1944 in KS and is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS. My gg grandfather James Knox (JK/Jim) Stinson was at Sharps Creek, McPherson County in the 1880 census. His wife was Martha Peterson and Charles Peterson lived on one side with Swan Peterson on the other. The Peterson's came from Indiana after arriving from Sweden. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the FRESCOLN Family of Illinois. The first is a photograph of Edward & Jennie FRESCOLN which was taken at the Watson Bros. Studio in Fairbury, IL, likely sometime in the 1880's. The children in this photograph appear to be about 3-5 years old at the time. The second photograph is identified only as "Grandpa FRESCOLN" and was taken at the E. M. Phillips Studio in Fairbury, IL. The photograph also appears to have been taken in the 1880's with the man in the photograph likely in his 50's or 60's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Jennie O. FRESCOLN was b. Feb 1881 in IL and George Edward FRESCOLN was b. 7 Nov 1883 in IL to parents J. Wesley FRESCOLN (b. Aug 1855 in Chester Co. PA) and Frances Anna WHITNEY (b. Aug 1860 in NY). This couple had 4 children including, Jennie O.; George Edward; Cecil R.; and Vergil F. FRESCOLN, all born between 1881 and 1895 in IL and KS. Hello everyone-- As part of the "Kansas History and Heritage Project," I have created a new research website for McPherson County. Please take time to visit it and have a look around: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksmcphhp/ This site features 1889 and 1903 directories, plat maps for all townships for 1903 and 1921, G.A.R. rosters, Swedish/Danish immigration records, biographies from the 1893 history book (not complete, but I am working on it) and some obituaries. Although I try not to duplicate information already online, after I had transcribed marriage records for 1882 and 1883, I found that the local historical society did have an index of McPherson Co. marriages. However, since the records I transcribed included a little more information (ages and residences) I felt comfortable leaving them on my site. My new website also includes a search engine to make finding that elusive relative a little easier. However, because of the possibility (more like probability) of names being misspelled, I also recommend browsing if you do not find what you need through the search engine. The new McPherson County site is part of the "Kansas History and Heritage Project": http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kahhp/index.html At this time, only 13 counties have their own sites (only 92 to go!) but for those counties who do not have their own home, I do have a "County Archives" section on the state site. There I will store information for those orphan counties until it can be moved to an individual website. This information can be accessed on the state site. I hope to have some data for ALL counties by the end of the summer, and websites for all counties within two or three years, so as you can see, it is an ongoing and lengthy project. Websites for neighboring counties of Saline, Dickinson and Marion are already online--check them out if you have any interest there. Sheryl
