'Bill' Ward William E. "Bill" Ward died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday, April 12, 2002, at age 81. Born Dec. 9, 1915, in Vermillion, Kan., Mr. Ward had been a Woodland resident for 55 years. He was the son of the late Edwin L. and Leona M. (Hoover) Ward. He started his career as a parts manager in Woodland and Abele Motors in 1947 and continued to work there when the company changed ownership to Century Buick and Pontiac. He retired after 41 years of service in 1988. He was a life member of the Woodland Elks Lodge No. 1299. According to his family members, "he was an avid golfer and bowler." Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma L. Ward of Woodland; sons, Richard Ward and wife Diane of Truckee and David Ward of Woodland; grandchildren, Emiley Simpson and husband Ron, Kathleen Santiago and husband James and Jed Ward and wife Shelley, all of Woodland and Chris Ward and wife Racheal of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; stepgrandchildren, Patrick Hague of Woodland, Karen Holmes and husband Jason of Bellington, Mass. and Jenna and Brooke Simpson of Woodland; sister, Farrold Martin and husband Woody of Sacramento; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cora MacDougal. A graveside service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. The family requests memorials be directed to American Red Cross, 120 Court St., Woodland 95695. I found a Declaration of Intention for Paul Hoffman, a native of Germany, age 31 and living in Marshall Co., KS, filed 2 Jan 1885 in Judicial Court in Marshall Co. KS and archived in the Scott Co., IA naturalization records recorded on LDS microfilm 1522569. I will be happy to send a copy to someone who cares. This Paul Hoffmann is not a relative of mine.
