Looking for information on a family legend that I am trying to validate. According to this family tradition, my 2nd great-grandfather Samuel G. Pillsbury moved his family to Frankfort, KS, from Massachusetts, in 1872, where some of his relatives lived. Sometime, shortly after moving to Frankfort, a tornado hit the area, killing two of Samuel's relatives (I don't know the names of the relatives killed) and nearly ripping all the clothers off of Samuel. As the story goes, Samuel was so traumatized by this event that he picked up his family and moved them to Phillips County, KS. Does anyone know how I would go about finding out more info and when this event occurred? My best guess is that it had to have happened sometime between 1872 and 1874, most likely in 1873, possibly even latter part of 1872. I have checked the Kansas Historical Society website for newspaper microfilm of Frankfort, but there is none listed for that timeframe. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might be able to trace down more info on this? Would there have been newspapers of any other nearby towns that I should be checking? Jerry I. Rupke Ephrata, WA
