Button Dead. October 20, 1901, at his home in Seneca, Missouri. Comrade Button died. His last illness took the form of Bright's disease. His burial was on Tuesday the 22nd. DeWitt C. Button was born at Painesville, Ohio, Dec. 22, 1825, and was 75 years, 9 months and 28 days old at his death. At the time of the breaking out of the war in 1861 he had a family and was living in Chicago. He enlisted under the first call in the 13th Illinois infantry and was wounded that year in the right leg, by which injury he obtained a discharge. He came home and went to California, but returning shortly he bought a farm in Champaign county, Ills., and moved there. Here he enlisted in Battery D. 1st Ill. Light Artillery and served to the end of the war. He came to Nebraska after the war and proved up a homestead and then came to Marshall county [KS] in 1878 and settled in Rock where he engaged in farming. By his first marriage 12 childr! en were born to him, only two of whom survive him, Leander and Mrs. CRISMAN of Green Ridge, Mo. His wife died here in Beattie several years ago, and later he married again, and went to Seneca, Missouri to live, and there he died, and was buried, having a wife and one child. Mr. BUTTON was a man of great energy and physical strength. He lived a strenuous life, was never quiet, always on the go. His life was to his neighbors an open book known and read of all men. He was while here connected with the Christian church. The Seneca (Mo.) Dispatch says, "The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon at the house, Rev. J. J. Jensen officiating, with interment in the Seneca cemetery." ---end --- Please contact me info about any of the above: Mary K. Ward, 1432 Yeardley Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23225. Ph: 804-232-9338.
