"A GOOD CITIZEN IS GONE: Ed Potter passed away at his home in Beattie, Saturday at 2:20 p.m., after an illness of but a few hours. Mr. Potter came up town as usual, Saturday morning, and when he got home at about eleven o'clock he remarked to Mrs. Potter that he was not feeling well. She suggested that he lie down for awhile, and seeing that he needed assistance she helped him to a cot, where he collapsed. His condition grew steadily worse until his death. While he has not been a well man for several years, Mr. Potter's condition was not regarded as serious, and had even improved somewhat from what it was a year ago. His sudden departure was a great shock to the family and friends. When still a boy he came with his father, the late Chas. Potter, from Iowa to Marshall county and with the family settled on the farm now occupied by J. E. O'Neil. Since that day Ed Potter has been closely associated with the affairs of the community. For nearly twenty-five years he was engaged in the hardware and furniture business in Beattie. A few years ago he sold the business and retired. Funeral services were held at the Beattie Methodist church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The funeral sermon was read by Rev. Eckert. The high esteem in which Mr. Potter was held was shown by the large body of sorrowing friends who were present to pay their last respects to a departed friend. Burial was made in the Beattie Union Cemetery. ---------- Edward Charles Potter ---- Like a flash from the clear blue sky came the summons to Edward Charles Potter that his earthly mission was finished and his Master and God called him to that eternal home from where no man returns. Saturday afternoon at 2:20, November 23, 1929 the spirit took its flight at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 3 days. Edward C. Potter was born at Vinton, Iowa, August 20, 1865. He came to Kansas and settled with his parents in Marshall county, near Beattie, when he was but 13 years of age. In this community he has made his home all the days that were alloted to him. He was married to Violetta Button, February 26th, 1896, and to this union five sons were born. Two, Charles and Lewis preceded the father to that eternal rest in their young manhood. Glen and LeRoy of Beattie and Merrill of Sabetha, with the wife survive; also two sisters, Mrs. Polly Elnora Wilson of Osborne, Kansas, and Mrs. Nellie Wuester of Beattie; and two brothers will Potter of Scott City, Kansas and Jay Potter, Belgrade, Montana, and one grandson and a host of neighbors and friends will miss his love and friendship. He was a member of the M.W.A. of Beattie. He attended to his own business, loved and was a patient father, a kind husband, a dutiful neighbor and a trusted friend. We shall miss him in the home, but he rests in peace with Him who came to be the Light of the world. "When I am to die, Receive me, I'll cry For Jesus has loved me I cannot tell why But this do I find, The two are so joined He'll not be in Heaven And leave me behind." ---Selected ----- Card of Thanks: We wish to thank you one and all for your kindness to us in our hour of bereavement, and for the beautiful flowers sent in loving memory of our dear husband and father.
