Godd Morning Mary Thiele Fobian Thankyou for your reply. In answer to your ques. Had received by gene'lister the 1900 finding of my g.uncle in Vermillion Twp. Marshall KS The Info on it as follows Henry Harrison Smith -head December 1855 age 44 md 16 years Ill (macon co had 1854 birth) Mary Elizabeth Kious Smith -wife April 1858 age 42 (I believe OH birth-info off page) Elda -daughter Jan 1885 Paul -Son Feb 1887 Barbara daughter December 1892 Laurence son June 1895 Henry Harrison Smith came from Decatur, Ill. Father John G H Smith & Mother Martha Elizabeth Wheeler Smith. I believe they lived in Oakley Twp and a Hopewell postoffice. GG John Grigg Higgin Smith died 1857, Martha remarried in 1864. Martha married John in 1844 but they errored in referring to John C H Smith when it was GH He was early doctor to Oakley twp. If I can tell you what Ive attempted. Went to Random Acts of Kindness, but volunteer for that co. no longer lived there. She gave me post address for person in Marshall to write. I wrote my inquiry. The lady passed it on to the local gene'society there. But for what ever reason. They could tell me that there was an neighbor Eli Smith. Maybe another son after 1895. Our local library has no amnesty or family history center access presently anyway. Theres a pattern that my smiths ancestors left Ill in 1880s Geo W.Smith (my g grandfather) brother Garland W., Andrew J Smith, Joseph A Smith all seemed to go to Iowa first and Henry went to KS, Andrew J went to SD. Had some luck with that g.uncle.-obtaining obituaries Its a start. Raised by paternal Grams right near them in Ia who never spoke of these relatives. Is Marshall the county or a city there in Kansas. I believe all the brothers were farmers- stable until the depression at least. Is this area of Kansas pretty sparsley populated- Early days the 1880a,90s Thank you for your time with my poor attempts here to explain. wayne >From: Mary Thiele Fobian <metaphor4@sbcglobal.net> >Reply-To: KSMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com >To: KSMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: KSMARSHA] vermillion twp/ Henry Harrison Smith >family/descendants search >Date: Thu, 3 Mar 2005 07:32:44 -0800 (PST) > >Wayne-- > >Do you already have census data for Henry Smith? > >Do you know what Macon County, Illinois town/township he lived in? > >When you say he married "a Kious," was that his wife's first name or >surname? > >Do you already know whether they had children, and the children's names & >birth dates/places? > > >Wayne Smith <chessman52@hotmail.com> wrote: >Hello, new to this list/ searching for any information regarding g.uncle >Henry H.Smith b.1852 >Macon Co Illinois. Wayne, There is a problem with the data you were given--it is incomplete and doesn't reveal an important fact that indicates that this Henry SMITH is **not** the son of John GH Smith! Unfortunately, some numbers have been written over the top of the area where Henry's initial appears, but I'm fairly certain that it's "P" rather than "H." Here's what's actually in the 1900 census: 1900 US Census, KS, Marshall Co., Vermillion Township, Sheet 20B SMITH, Henry [P?], head, Dec 1855, 44, married 16 years, IL IN --Mary, wife Apr 1858, 42, married 16 years, bore 7 children/5 living, OH SWITZ --Elda, daughter, Jan 1885, 15, KS --Paul, son, Feb 1887, 13, KS --Barbara, daughter, Dec 1892, 7, KS --Lawrence, son, [June?] 1895, 4, KS --Iva, daughter, Mar 1898, 2, KS --Benjamin [W?], Father, Dec 1819, 80, widowed, IN IN Wayne Smith <chessman52@hotmail.com> wrote: Godd Morning Mary Thiele Fobian Thankyou for your reply. Hi Again Mary Well that beats all- Went to LDS earlier- searched Henrys son Paul. Names were all different. but all the dates matched mine to months Henry there was Henry Lewis born 55/ but said Bloomington IL the Mary was not Mary E.Kious but a Mary Ann NYFELER her dates match the dates of my 1900 census also. Paul was Paul Ariel Smith. correct birth date to mine. But being the middle initial different throws it all out the window and back to square 1. Would that be your take. Its bad enough to have to search smiths but then errored entries.humm I will keep your kind efforts. All kinds of cogs in the works- got probate of gg grandfather listed as heir is someone not listed with household any years. Mainhope is to find descendant that might know whom gg grandfathers siblings and parents were. Thankyou very much wayne >From: Mary Thiele Fobian <metaphor4@sbcglobal.net> >Reply-To: KSMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com >To: KSMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Henry [P?] SMITH, KS / Marshall Co. / Vermillion Twp., 1900 census >Date: Thu, 3 Mar 2005 18:10:35 -0800 (PST) > >Wayne, > >There is a problem with the data you were given--it is incomplete and >doesn't reveal an important fact that indicates that this Henry SMITH is >**not** the son of John GH Smith! Wayne, yes the initial "P" is important, but did you notice that the Vermillion KS household includes that Henry's FATHER, and his name is BENJAMIN.
