James D Gray homesteaded in Marshall County in the early 1860s and lived there until abt 1876. In his obituary ( in Colorado) it says he was the second sheriff in Marshall County for the 1870s. Does anyone know how I can verify this? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Frank

Evelyn, Finally got a chance to glance thru your website. Have a connection for you. My surnames are Alkire, Hidy, and Welch. Also have some Osborne ties... My Grandma is a Hidy who married a Welch. She still lives in Blue Rapids. Know the parents of your Catharine Hidy... John Hidy and Christina Wexler. Listed as Highland Co VA pioneers. My family comes down thru George who was your Catharine's brother. You can see the rest of her siblings and some cousins on the following page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vahighla/hpgene.html You have to scroll down a bit to the Hidy family. John Hidy was an assistant drill instructor at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War. I recently was sent a pic of his tombstone from another in the family. It's still standing and in good shape in the Crabbottom area of Highland Co VA. Also have a couple of Hidy books if you're interested. I lost John's line after his father Johannes Heinrich Heyde - he was born in Germany and came to the "colonies" before John was born. Having problems pinpointing a birth date. Know he was born in Philadelphia. Christina's parents, I have at home, and back a couple of generations. You can fine listings for John & Christina on the LDS genealogy site. So cousin, just tell me how much info you want, and I'll gladly share.
