I am researching the following Cain/Caine/Cane/Kain families: John Cain born abt 1794 in probably Pennsylvania and married Elizabeth Brandt Mouler/Mohler Cain in 1815 in Fairfield Co. Ohio. She is the daughter of Lodwick Brandt. John and Elizabeth's children were: Lewis, James, John, Isaiah. Their children were: Samuel, Benjamin, Alva, Mary, William, charles, Daniel, Martha, Emily Letitia. After the death of Lewis the family moved to Crawford Co. Illinois and then some moved on to Clay Co. and Cloud Co. Kansas in 1880. James Cain married Ann Maria Deckor in 1838. Their children are: Mary, Henry, Sarah, Emily, Ellenora, Caroline, Harriett, Robert, Catharine, William, Laura. Isaish married Cecelia Caroline Reynolds in 1842 in Perry Co. Ohio. Their children are: John, Henry, Alexander, Samuel, Wallace, Frank, and Cora. Anyone researching these Cains? Oops, that should read "will NOT automatically come to the mailing list." Ordinarily they do automatically come, but some spammers apparently have discovered they can post something to the message board and it will come through to the mailing lists too. Rootsweb's Spam filters are excellent and we get spared a lot of junk because of them, unfortunately they don't catch these message board posts at this time. Hello, I'm putting the Message Boards messages on "reject" for the time being, so they will automatically come to the mailing list. Lots of "SPAM" has been coming through the Boards to the mailing lists of late, this is the only way to stop it from hitting the mailing lists. The Board messages will come to me as Listmom, I will forward them to the list (as long as it's not SPAM) so no one else has to worry about getting inappropriate messages to the mailing lists. In case you haven't heard by now, the 1880 US Census & 1881 Canadian census are both online at the LDS site--http://www.familysearch.org When the page comes up, the link to these censuses are on your left. They're accessible by a search engine, if you know where your people were in this census you can narrow it down to the area--if not, you can search the whole country. Researching WASSER surname. I. Your new RootsWeb mailing list: OK, good news: your mailing list is ready to roll. Briefly (very), people can subscribe to your list in mail mode by sending a message to WASSER-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to WASSER-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, they should send the command "unsubscribe" to WASSER-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or WASSER-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To switch from one mode to the other, they should unsubscribe from one and then subscribe to the other. There is no "no mail" mode -- if they want messages to stop, they should simply unsubscribe. (Suggestion: use these commands to subscribe to WASSER-L, as no one at all is currently subscribed, and then send a test message through. Take your list for a test drive, in other words.) To post to both WASSER-L and WASSER-D, messages should be sent to WASSER-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places.

Surnames: CROCKETT, OOLEY, JOHNSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Jm.2ADE/13.1.1 Message Board Post: Moses Crockett, b. 15 Jul 1830 in Indiana, was the son of James and Louisa Ooley Crockett. The following is an excerpt found in the "HISTORY OF GREENE COUNTY," in the "Biographical Sketches" section, under the heading of "Center Township." "MOSES CROCKETT. County Commissioner, was born July 15, 1830, in Owen County, Ind., and is one of nine children born to James and Louisa (Oley) Crockett, who settled in Owen County at a very early day, but subsequently removed to this county. Moses Crockett received only limited educational advantages in youth, and his general occupation through life has been farming. At the time he began doing for himself, he had little or no means, but ambition, the chief characteristic of an American, propelled him forward, and by years of hard toil and economy he has acquired 225 acres of good land, the greater part of which is under cultivation and well stocked. His marriage with Margaret M. Johnson was solemnized January 2, 1851, and six childre! n have been born to them, named James T., Nancy L. (deceased), Mary E., Daniel W., Stephen A. (deceased), and Angeline. In politics, Mr. Crockett is a Democrat, and in 1880, as the candidate of his party for the office of County Commissioner, was elected, although having a Republican majority to overcome. Again, in 1882, he was elected to this office by a largely increased majority, which reached 253 votes, and this, of itself, is sufficient indication of Mr. Crockett's standing among his neighbors and fellow-citizens." James Crockett was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Watkins Crockett of Virginia. Elizabeth and a number of her children emigrated to Indiana after Alexander's death 15 Sep 1816 in Tennessee. Do you have any other information on Moses Crockett or where his family came from prior to Indiana. The reason I am asking is I had a gggg grandfather named Tillman Crockett from Virginia. He had a son named John T. Crockett and a grandson named James Arnold Crockett. I have been trying to place him in respect with other family lines of Crockett. Since Tillman is an unusual name I thought he may be an Uncle or grandfather of Moses. My Tillman Crockett was born around 1776 and I think died in the 1850's.
