    3. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday February 25, 1898 Mound City. The following were initiated into the Select Friends at their regular meeting last Friday night, Mr. and Mrs. E.F. CAMPBELL, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. DOTY, Mr. and Mrs. John McGREW, Dr. and Mrs. S.H. BROOKS, Mr. and Mrs. Erastus CLEMENS, J.H. ORR and Wilber MANN. Refreshments of cake and coffee were served at the close of the lodge meeting. Miss Edna LORTON celebrated her sixth birthday last Saturday afternoon by entertaining about twenty of her little friends from 2 to 4 o'clock in a very pleasant manner. Miss Edna was six years old on Friday, Feb. 18, but the celebration was held on Saturday. Dainty refreshments were enjoyed by the little folks. While chopping wood one day last week Ed. LATHROPE had the misfortune to let the ax slip from his hands, which flew and struck his brother, Will, who was standing near him, cutting a painful gash in his leg. Mr. and Mrs. J.R. MENTZER are the happy parents of a baby son which made its appearance in the Mentzer home last Sunday evening with Dr. Stanley H. BROOKS in attendance. Hary CONRAD has bought the property now occupied by John LeGRANGE and will move into it as soon as it is vacated. Ben ILIFF was initiated into the Woodmen lodge Monday night, and Dr. J.A. DOUGLAS was taken in by card. Mrs. Wiley COX went to Hiattsville, Kansas last Saturday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Ernest SAWYER. Mrs. L.F. WILLIAMS is numbered among the sick this week. Dr. John B. PAUL is attending her. Andrew SPEARS, son of Daniel Spears is quite ill at the home of his father.
