The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday December 3, 1897 The cold wave accompanied by sleet has already caused the ring of the Santa Claus sleigh bells to resound in the ears of the young ones. E.E. KERR informs us that he has done over $800 worth of clothing business this fall. His house is perfectly reliable. Miss Alpha MITZEL attended a concert in Paola Tuesday night. Judge GOSS is having his court of justice re-floored and otherwise fixed up. Miss Jessie MENDENHALL had the misfortune to burn one of her hands quite badly this week. Ed. E. KERR will act as the clothing Santa Claus for this section. He invites you to look through his 1,000 samples. Last Tuesday was the 45th birthday of Dr. W. T. VERDIER. His wife planned a surprise for him and invited a number of friends in to spend the evening. The doctor who was at his office, was sent for and on arriving was completely surprised at the gathering. He said to be truthful he had forgotten that Tuesday was his birthday. A good time was enjoyed by all and the pleasantness of the evening removed twenty years from the Doctor's actions. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W.I. ELLSWORTH, Mrs. C.HESSER, Mrs. G.G. HOLMES and son, Charles, Misses Rhoda and Carrie NUGENT and C.C. WUTTKE.
