The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday September 29, 1883 The latter part of last week, Mrs. E. SHINKLE met with a serious accident while visiting at the residence of Jesse VANCE, in Scott township, when she mistook a cellar door for one leading to a bedroom, and unfortunately fell donw the cellar. Her friends will wish her an early recovery. It is not know exactly how Elton SMITH, son of Hon. Ed. R. Smith, was injured last week. He had been riding a trusty family horse and was found lying in an insensible condition in the road four miles west of Mound City. The Journal very much regrets to learn of his serious condition.
