    2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Miami. Rhuben SMITH is digging himself a well. The scarlet fever is spreading in New Lancaster. We are glad to hear Miss Lizzie BLACK who has been quite sick is recovering. Tom HENRY had the misfortune to get his collar bone broken. We understand he is suffering considerable form the effects of it. Mrs. M.O. FLEHARTY went to Cadmus last week to visit her mother, Mrs. Joseph PAYNE, who is sick with malarial fever. Mr. and Mrs. F.E. KEITH have returned home from a two weeks visit in Ills. They found Illinois in a worse condition from the drouth than Kansas. Last Sunday Reuben SMITH, who had been blasting in a well, was picking the percussion from a cap that was supposed to be worthless, when it exploded. As a result Mr. SMITH is loser the end of one finger, a split in another and has a portion of the cap lodged in his hand. Last week grasshoppers could be seen high up in the air traveling a southeasterly direction. We suppose they were coming from some point northwest in quest of a more genial climate. We hope so, for we can get along without them.
