The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday December 2, 1882 A young man by the name of Frank CLAPP, engaged as a brakeman on the Gulf road, met with a horrible death Wednesday night near Rich Hill Junction. He was working on freight No. 10, running northward, and in some manner, it is not known how, he fell under the wheels and was literally crushed and mashed to piececs. He was not missed until No. 10 reached Pleasanton. No. 9, afterwards going south, found the remains in the terrible conditioin spoken of, when they were placed together in a box and conveyed to an undertaker's establishment in Pleasanton.

    3. The La Cygne Week Journal Linn County Saturday November 25, 1882 Mrs. Dorcas NORTON, mother of Mrs. W.J. SAGE, died last Saturday morning at the residence of Mr. W.J. Sage, eight miles northeast of La Cygne, of dropsy, age 65 years.

The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday November 25, 1882 Judge FRENCH assessed a fine of $100, and about $80 costs, against Robert WHISNER, of this city, on the verdict of the jury in the District Court that he violated the liquor law. The defendant paid the assessment and continues the management of the billiard hall. Mr. and Mrs. S.W. MOORE and children, of Louisburg, visited in La Cygne the first of the week. Mr. Moore is duly authorized to write postmaster after his name and was recently elected mayor of his city, being the first to hold the latter position, Louisburg having just been made a city of the third class.

PAYNE, Mr. J.W. Hodgson to Miss E.A. Palmer. The blushing bride wore a pair of silk stockings that had been used on twenty occasions of the same kind, twice in France, ten times in Maine, five times in Illinois, and three times in Kansas. They were a present to the bride's mother's great grandmother. They have been in and out of fashion three times during the recollection of the bride's moleth. They are now in fashion. (J.S.Payne.)
