    1. Death: William Gilmore WEAVER..
    2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 28, 1898 William Gilmore Weaver. Sunday night between 9 and 10 o'clock at the home of Mrs. O.C. GILLENWATER in LaCygne with his family gathered around him, William Gilmore WEAVER, passed to the other world. He was born on the STINE farm east of LaCygne near Silver Mound, Aug. 7, 1865, and has resided in and near this place almost ever since. He was married to Miss Mollie McGEE, March 16, 1890, and to this union four children were born, all of whom are living. On Monday afternoon he was tenderly laid to rest in the Oak Lawn cemetery by a large number of friends. "Gill" Weaver, as he was commonly called, was known from Kansas City to Memphis, having been a brakeman on the Memphis route for 16 years. He was one of those big-hearted boys who always had friends and would share his last with them. He was a faithful employee and was always the same good-natured "Gill." He was a member of the B.R.T., and twelve members of that order arrived from Kansas too late to attend the funeral. To the bereaved relatives and friends the Journal extends its most sincere sympathy. We desire to thank all who were so kind and tender to us during our late sadness. Mrs. W.G. Weaver, Mrs. O.C. Gillenwater.

The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 28, 1898 While in Buffalo, New York attending the national G.A.R. encampment a year ago, Mr. and Mrs. William GOSS of this place made the acquaintance of a Methodist preacher and family. Anyone who is acquainted with Mr. GOSS will feel amused to know that he took up with the preacher. The circumstances were like this: Judge GOSS and wife were watching the big parade and close by them in the crowd this preacher and wife stood taking in the sights. For some cause the preacher made a remark about Kansas that did not please Mr. GOSS and he told the preacher in a gentlemanly way that he did not know what he was talking about. The reverend gentleman took his medicine bravely and after remaining quiet a short time, he said: "Say, Kansas, I have just been talking to my wife and we want you folks to come out and stay all night with us." Mr. and Mrs. GOSS accepted the invitation and a warm friendship has existed between the two families ever since.
