    2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday December 9, 1898 Jingo. Literary every Friday evening. C.L. MOORE is building a new chicken house. Mrs. SPURGIN is able to be up and around again. Gingrich MASSEY is suffering a great deal with a very bad felon on his finger. Miss STRIKER taught school Saturday to make up for Friday lost after Thanksgiving. James LINDSEY has two possums one bought of Alvia JOHNSON and one of Sherman KUHN. Hattie WHASLEY is staying with Mrs. NEAL now instead of his sister, Mattie, while Mrs. NEAL is teaching school. Robert SHUMAKER received a telegram Sunday from New Mexico to come up and work for the government. He expects to start soon. We are sorry to say that Mr. HIPON has been in Kansas City to see a doctor twice about a sore on his face and it has been pronounced a cancer.

Joe JACKSON bought a horse of Mrs. LINDSEY Monday. James MOORE visited Miss GOSSE's school at Rock Springs Thursday. Mrs. PATTERSON has rented Mrs. DEROMES' place for another year. Mrs. James KELSEY of Osawatomie visited with Mr. and Mrs. KELSEY Sunday. Charley MASSEY has took up his wood work again in the blacksmith shop at this place. Miss Lillie JONES, Birdie KELSEY and Elsie MOORE visited Miss STRIKER's school last Wedneday.

Harry HILL, of Parker was in the city last Friday on business. Mrs. H.S. SHANNON was on the sick list last week. Phil THORNE and wife are the proud parents of a big bouncing boy, born last Saturday. Dr. S.H. BROOKS attending physician. Mrs. DeHART of Moran is in the city this week visiting her daughter, Mrs. C.C. PATTENGILL. Dr. WILLIAMS of Hume was called Saturday to attend the sick infant of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar BENNETT. Mrs. Jennie HUGHES again took charge of the Commercial Hotel Monday. Mrs. TATE will go to farming. The household goods sold quite well at Mrs. Belle SWIFT's public auction Saturday afternoon at her residence on East Main street.

    2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday December 2, 1898 S.L. JONES now carries the mail from here to Jingo. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry SIMPSON last Tuesday night a fine boy. Jack TIPTON whose hand was crushed by a horse some time ago is regaining its use. Benj. KISER and G.H. GRAHAM of Amsterdam, drove over to LaCygne Friday evening. F.W. POLLMAN jr, and Miss Carrie DONALDSON attended the dance at Pleasanton Saturday night.Miss DONALDSON furnished the music for the dance. Captain SIFERS went to Mound City Tuesday to see Dr. BASKERVILLE in hopes of being relieved from his rheumatism. He was accompanied as far as Pleasanton by his son, Robert. The Jas. Dixon Crusible Co., of Jersey City, N.J. favored us with samples of their superior quality lead pencils this week. They are the best on the market and when you buy a pencil be sure that you get a Dixon. Some sneak thief entered A.G. COPELAND's blacksmith shop one night this week and took there from five dozen files. No trace of the thief has yet been found but suspicions are centered and probably the fur will soon begin to fly.

    2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday December 2, 1898 Hendricks--Tricker. Dr. A.L. HENDRICKS and Miss Bertha TRICKER were quietly married at the M.E. parsonage by Rev. S.R. McNABB Wednesday evening. The announcement of the marriage came as a great surprise to many of their friends, but all join none the less heartily in extending them congratulation of their present happiness until "death them do part." Miss Bertha TRICKER has grown up in this town and for her many good qualities everybody loves her. She is at present a teacher in our public school. Dr. HENDRICKS came here abotu two years ago and at once gained a popularity which he has not lost. The couple are well mated. They left Thursday morning on a wedding trip which will extend to Kansas City and St. Louis.--Mound City Republic

Frank KELSEY hauled his flax to Drexel last week. James LINDSEY has been appointed postmaster of this place. Mrs. SPURGIN is very sick and Dr. VERDIER is attending her. Mr. and Mrs. WELLS spent Sunday with Mr. G.B. JONES and family. Misses Birdie KELSEY and Lillie JONES visited the Rock Springs school last Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. ATWOOD and Mr. and Mrs. McDONALD were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. WOLF last Sunday.

Mrs. George TRACEY returned home Tuesday. Bruce ADAMS of near Mound City was in LaCygne Wednesday marketing mules. Arnold MILLER of Paola attended the dance here Saturday night. Miss Eva ASHBAUGH of Mound City spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. A.C. COPELAND. Captain A.W. BURTON and Miss Anna TYSON are in LaCygne this week with the tax-rolls of Lincoln, Scott and Valley townships. This custom has been practiced in this county so long that a great many of our people think it is the law. It is not however, and the expense of sending the rolls from one point to another comes from the treasurer. Newt. BERRY one of Kansas City's old firemen, was in LaCygne last week visiting F.H. GOULD and family, and while here made a call at the engine house and examined La Cygne's fire fighting facilities. He complimented the outfit very highly and said the new hose recently purchased by th ecity was of better quality and had better couplings than any hose used by the departments in Kansas City. Mr. BERRY also inspected ruins of of the Johnson residence and pronounced the work done by Chief McCARTY and his fire boys as first-class.

PARKER came over from Adrian, Mo., last week to get a load of flour. Pete HIGGINS was in Saint Louis the first of the week with a car of mules. Joseph COPELAND, of Trading Post was in Mound City Thursday on business. Mrs.M.H. GIBBS who has been here attending her father's funeral returned to her home in Emporia Tuesday. Prof. CLINESMITH, Misses Mary COLLINS, Sadie ROKES and Josie JONES were down from Parker Saturday attending teacher's meeting. Miss Grace BURTON with assistance of a number of her friends celebrated here seventh birthday. Delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. James HAWKINS returned form Parker Saturday where she had been visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. THOMPSON, who has been quite sick. Geo. LONG who was a member of the Fifth Missouri regiment, was in town Monday. His regiment has recently been mustered out. Chester FLEMING, son of R.C. FLEMING, accidentally fell off a rock sidewalk lat Saturday evening and broke his wrist. Dr. PAUL dressed the wound.

BARNETT, age 63, and Mrs. Sarah E. FAREWELL, age 59, both of LaCygne. Judge GOSS also reported the marriage of Wm. JOHNSON, age 23, and Miss DAILEY age 23, both of Boicourt. Nov. 7--G.H. ROOT, administrator of the estate of Alva D. ROOT, deceased made settlement in said estate and resigned his position as said administrator for the reason that he is going to move from the state of Kansas.     2. The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday November 11, 1898 Miss Kate DAVIS is very sick. The Citizens Bank has our thanks for a fine map of Linn county which they are presenting to their patrons. It is a perfect map of the county and is a splendid way for the bank to keep its name before everyone. Miss Florence ATKINSON left Saturday for Osawatomie to accept a position as attendant in the asylum at that place. Miss ATKINSON is one of LaCygne's best young ladies, intelligent, energetic and ambitious, and it goes without sayng that she will be a valuable attendant at the asylum. Harry ROBINSON who has been at Omaha during the Exposition returned home Saturday evening. Col. Ed.R. SMITH of Mound City was in LaCygne Sunday taking final view of the battle ground. Miss Rena WILGUS and sister, Mrs. Frank TRAUL, entertained a few friends at their home in LaCygne Saturday night. Messrs. W.A. STACEY and J.B. SAUNDERS were out camping Saturday. To their great astonishment they found a new addition to bugology. It is the winter mosquito. Scotty GIBBS has finished the foundation for Greely SMITH's new house in Valley township, and reports that the Valley is in fine condition every way. Scotty thinks that, aside form LaCgyne, Valley is the best place known. While Miss Louise WYMORE and brother were driving out to LaCygne last Friday night their team became frightened and turned over the buggy throwing occupants to the ground. Fortunately no serious damage was done.
