Tracey HARSHMAN got his hand hurt by being kicked by a horse last Friday. Miss Mable McCOACH entertained her young friends Tuesday night by giving a party at her home. Mr. TURNER has moved into the James FORBES place which he rented for the next year. Miss Leoti DYER who has just returned form Cripple Creek, Col., visited relatives here Sunday.
The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Spring Valley. Mrs. James AUSTIN and grandson, James KINCAID, visited relatives in Leavenworth last week. A son of Andy DALTONS has been very sick with fever for several weeks. Mr. Dalton came to this place from Oregon about three months ago. His famiy has been in very poor health since they have been here. His wife died about a month ago of heart failure. Mr. Dalton is a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McBATH. Mr. and Mrs. Robert KENNEDY of Linnville, are the proud parents of a daughter, born Oct. 8. And Grandpa Jesse Kennedy is the proudest man in this valley. Miss Lula SILER who has been in Pleasanton for the past month, came home Monday. She is still suffering with throat trouble.

Dr. HUGES will soon occupy the property of Mrs. Maggie SMITH. John JOHNSON started for Leavenworth Tuesday morning to attend the reunion. A nine pound boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar SHATTUCK Sunday morning. Dr. REES, of Pleasanton, officiating.
The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Boicourt. A son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. FESLER, died last Friday with congestion of the brain. The remains were laid to rest Saturday the 1?th, in the Trading Post cemetery.

The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Miami. Rhuben SMITH is digging himself a well. The scarlet fever is spreading in New Lancaster. We are glad to hear Miss Lizzie BLACK who has been quite sick is recovering. Tom HENRY had the misfortune to get his collar bone broken. We understand he is suffering considerable form the effects of it. Mrs. M.O. FLEHARTY went to Cadmus last week to visit her mother, Mrs. Joseph PAYNE, who is sick with malarial fever. Mr. and Mrs. F.E. KEITH have returned home from a two weeks visit in Ills. They found Illinois in a worse condition from the drouth than Kansas. Last Sunday Reuben SMITH, who had been blasting in a well, was picking the percussion from a cap that was supposed to be worthless, when it exploded. As a result Mr. SMITH is loser the end of one finger, a split in another and has a portion of the cap lodged in his hand. Last week grasshoppers could be seen high up in the air traveling a southeasterly direction. We suppose they were coming from some point northwest in quest of a more genial climate. We hope so, for we can get along without them.
The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Tommy, the little 4-year-old son of Tim LAWHEAD, died of scarlet fever Wednesday morning. On Thursday the remains of the little one were laid to rest in the LaCygne Cemetery.
The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Pleasant Ridge. D.J. STITES is building a new barn. W.R. FERGUSON is digging his well deeper this week. Mrs. Lane MAYS and sons, Earl and Gene visited near Parker Sunday. School is progressing nicely with Miss Grace McRAE as teacher. A.MAYS and daughter, Bessie are visiting relatives in Pleasanton this week. Mr. and Mrs. E.G. STITES will leave for Oklahoma something in the near future. Mrs. D. J. STITES entertained a few of her friends at an old fashioned quilting party last Thursday. Those present were as follows: Mesdames Ida STITES, Nell STITES, Bettie STITES, Phebie MINER, Josie MINER, Belle AUGUR, Della ROBINSON, Martha FERGUSON, Mollie HODGSON, Rosa GRIFFITH, Dema STITES and Emma STITES.

Joined in marriage by Probate Judge POTTER. Oct. 13. Marriage License issued to Ernest DIXON, of Goodrich, Kan., age 21, and Miss Carrie E. OUTMAN of Centerville, Kan., age 21. Oct. 10, Lanon COLLINS was brought before the Probate Judge on a writ of habeas corpus, and tried for being illegally imprisoned in the county jail. Case was decided against him and he was remanded back to jail. Marriage license to Ludwick HERMAN of Farlinville, age 39, and Miss Jennie SMITH of Farlinville, age 27. United in marriage by Probate Judge POTTER.

The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Jingo. Ora NORTON is baling hay. Mr. WOLF has rebuilt his barn. Frank KELSEY has been hauling corn to Drexel. John JOHNSON is one of the jurymen in Paola. Noah KELSEY's children have all been on the sick list. Dr. VERDIER has been tending on them. Jack YOWELL sold his furniture at Mr. YOUNG's sale and is expecting to go to Colorado soon. Mr. and Mrs. ATWOOD wrote that they had got through to New York alright. They went through Michigan and made a visit with Mr. HEISTAND and other friends.

The LaCygne Weekly Journal Linn County Friday October 15, 1897 Mrs. L.T. ROBINSON has just received another shipment of millinery goods. Call and see them. Miss Mable NICHOLS left Monday for Baldwin where she will attend school. She was accompanied by Rev. A. D. WOOD. Mrs. Wm. GOSS and daughter, Mr. J.A. BROYLES and two children of Cherokee, left Thursday morning to visit friends at Kincaid. Last Sunday the family of I. GLUCKLICH received a message which stated that a brand new baby boy and arrived at the home of A. FISCHER and wife of Blue Mound. The geese are going south! This no only indicates cold weather but also indicates that the Journal needs some coal on subsrciption. Who will be the first one to do an act for their country. J.B. NORMAN, the Blaker Milling Company's representative was in LaCygne Monday. He informed us that on account of the yellow fever in the south some of their southern trade was shut off, for which reason the mill was only running the day run at present. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. ALLEN and daughter, Lucile, of Kansas City; also Mrs. Bell BENNETT and two children, Johnnie and Leliah, of near Orchard, Kan., are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.N. CROW of this place, this week.

STITES visited with H.P. MALLORY and wife Sunday. Frank STITES recently completed the house he has been building for his brother, Chas. STITES, near Mound City. Mrs. A. J. MAYS and sons, Frank and Ed. started for Oklahoma Saturday where they will visit relatives for a short time.

Cadmus school opened Monday with Mrs. Louise HUGHES as teacher. Miss Nettie SHINKLE spent Saturday with her parents. Miss Hattie LOVE was at home Sunday from Osawatomie. Mrs. Clara PRENTICE returned Wenesday from Garnett where she has been visiting her mother.
