    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday October 16, 1881 Mr. H.C. MILLER and his daughter, Mamie returned last Saturday afternoon from a visit at Lee's Summitt, Mo. Harvey RICKETTS has opened a new boot and shoe shop in the building on the northwest corner of Broadway and Market. W.A. HAWK is now stationed at Woyville, this county, as telegraph operator at the junction of the Gulf and Rich Hill railroads. W.A. TRIGG, of Scott township, the Republican nominee for Probate Judge, was in town last Saturday, and in response to an inquiry, expressed himself well satisfied with the political situation. Mr. Trigg is a candidate who is thoroughly qualifed for the position he has been nominated to fill, and the Republican of Linn county should rally, to a man, in his earnest and hearty support.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday Septembre 25, 1880 A little child of Mrs. Van WINKLE, of this city, died Tuesday from the effects of an accidental scalding in hot water. Some time ago Mrs. Van Winkle had another child burned to death in a prairie fire.

TRIGG, of Scott township, who is a candidate for Probate Judge, it may be said that he has many warm friends who will take pleasure in assisting him to obtain the position for which he is named. They will do so because they believe in his thorough efficiency, in every respect, for the office. He is one of the Republicans who may always be relied upon for faithful work in the party, and if nominated today he will add strength to the ticket.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday September 4, 1880 Mr. Enoch BAKER died on Monday of last week at Catawba, Ohio, aged about 80 years. He was the father of Mrs. George W. BOTKIN, of this city, and was formerly a resident of Paris township, this county. For some time previous to the departure of himself and wife, a few months ago, for a visit to Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Baker lived with their daughter and her husband in La Cygne. The deceased bore an excellent reputation and died, at a ripe old age, regretted by a large circle of relatives and friends.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday September 4, 1880 La Cygne and vicinity were visited by a glorious series sof heavy rains on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 27-29. The showers were welcomed with general delight, as the weather for a few weeks previous had been in a state of perplexing dryness. During the dry spell there were numerous rains all around us, but here we failed to receive anything but a few sprinkles of short duration in the way of showers, but even they were highly appreciated. The heavy rains of last Friday and Saturday did a vast amount of good, among other things preparing the soil for the plow and the sowing of winter wheat.

    3. The La Cygne Weeky Journal Linn County Saturday August 14, 1880 Mrs William HUTCHINS died the latter part of last week at her home in Valley township. She was one of the old residents of Linn county. Her decease will be mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday August 7, 1880 Mr. M.H. MATHEWS, formerly of La Cygne, died Tuesday, at Pleasanton, of consumption. He was buried on Thursday, the lodge of the Knights of Honor of this city participating in the last sad rites. Mr. Mathews suffered for a long time and owing to the disease he had, his death was not unexpected, though, when it occurred, it occasioned sincere regret among a large circle of friends and acquaintances. The deceased was a man of good character. He leaves a wife and children.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday August 7, 1880 The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. KUHN, mentioned as being seriously ill, last week, died on the afternoon of July 29, and was buried in Scott township the following day. The parents have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday August 7, 1880 E.T. STURTEVANT has returned from a visit to New Hampshire. Mrs. Harry B. MILLER and her son, Charley are visiting relatives at Lee's Summit, Mo. H.MAURER has had nearly ten years experience in the watch repairing line in La Cygne. Those having watches to repair will do well to remember this fact. Mr. Herman WILCOX, of Rockville, Miami county, testifed Monday to the effect that his apple cropo was a good one, by presenting the Journal with a lot of magnificent samples.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday July 10, 1880 Died. SHEEK.--In this city, on the evening of July 3, from the effect of paralysis, Mrs. Lucinda, wife of J.W. Sheek, recently from Scott township, this county. The deceased was born in Yadkin county, North Carolina, August 10, 1815, was married in the same county to Mr. Sheek June 23, 1833. In the year 1850 she, with her husband, left their native home for the West and located in Poweshiek county, Iowa, and there remained until their removal to Linn county, Kansas, October, 1855. Mrs. Sheek, previous to coming to Kansas, was for several years a member of the Methodist church. She was a woman of high moral character, beloved by all who knew her. She leaves several children, besides her bereaved husband and a host of friends to mourn her death.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday June 26, 1880 The Journal regrets to record the death of Mrs. J.R. CAMPBELL, which occured in Scott township, Wednesday, after a long illness. The deceased was formerly Miss Minnie JOHNSTON, and was well known in La Cygne, where she spent several years of her life. At the time of her death she was about 19 years old. She was an excellent young lady and leaves many friends to mourn her loss. The funeral occurred on Thursday, the burial taking place in the cemetery adjoining the city.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday June 12, 1880 A stabbing affray, in which H.A. ROBINSON, of Mound City, received nine serious gashes about the head and face, from William McALLISTER, of Scott township, occurred last Saturday at the residence of A. GARL, seven miles west of La Cygne. It is said that the cause of the attack was jealousy in a love affair, and that after McAllister had seen what he had done he regretted the assault. Dr. J.M. WELCH, of this city, was called upon to dress the wounds of the afflicted man. Mr. Robinson is about 24 years old. We understand that he is connected with the management of the county poor farm. McAllister fled the county to escape arrest.
