The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday April 2, 1881 Mrs. Samuel MILLER has been confined to her bed during the week. She is a great sufferer but bears her affliction cheerfully and has a smile for every one who enters the sick room. She has lately commenced to use the water from Eureka Springs and thinks it has a good effect. Mr. Miller intends to take her to the Springs as soon as she is able to travel, and we hope she may find relief in the waters that are supposed to be "for the healing of the nations."
The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday March 26, 1881 Frank HARMON was accidentally kicked about the face and badly injured in this city on the nineteenth instant. It happended in this way. Ham PARKER was doing some team work about his father's premises, when a couple of dogs, one of them belonging to the Harmons, got to fighting under the wagon. Frank rushed out to separate the fighting curs, and got behind one of the horses in order to do so. At this one of the animals gave him a kick about one of his eyes, which caused him to faint away and afterwards to become delirious. He was very sick for some time, but fortunately had a speedy recovery under the circumstances, being about town on Tuesday.
The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday March 26, 1881 Mr. and Mrs. V.P. ROBERTS, formerly of La Cygne, had the misfortune to lose their baby, Lillie, aged about seven months, by death at Kansas City, Mo., on Friday evening of last week. The remains of the child were brought to La Cygne, Saturday, accompanied by the parents and Mr. J.W. Roberts, and buried on Sunday at the cemetery in Scott township, six and one-half miles southwest of La Cygne.
The La Cygne Weekly Journal Saturday March 26, 1881 A meeting of Linn county druggists was held March 17 at Pleasanton. Representatives of all the drug stores in La Cygne and Pleasanton, and of one drug store in Mound City, were present. The object of the conference was to take united action in regard to the prohibition law. It is stated to have been informally agreed upon that the druggists in attendance would not take our permits to seel intoxicating liquors. The meeting adjourned until after April 10, on which date the State Pharamceutical Society hold a convention, at Topeka, to consider what they will do about the sale of liquors. Later: The State Convention has been postponed until April 13.
