Hi, I just signed up today. The surname I am researching is AGIN. I have went to the website for Lincoln, Co. but could not find a township map. I am searching for Aginville in the county of Lincoln and believe it to be in or near Madison township. I also looked for a county map of 1900 to 1910 range, and could not find one. From what little information, I have. For a reference, is Westfall in Madison township? Thank you Audra
Hi Audra.... I'm no expert on Lincoln County names but Aginville new to me. I checked the Kansas Post Office Directory and didn't find it there either. Just out of curiosity I put in a search on the US Geological Survey search page and found one thing, a steam in Ohio called "Agins Run." I did find one Agin on the Lincoln County page. If you'll check the page with REES(E) family information at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/rees.htm you'll find a marriage: Mr Millard J REES & Mamie M AGIN Jan 6 1908 Have you contacted Tracee Hamilton? She has a lot of info not on the site and might be able to help you further. Her email address is TraceeHamilton@aol.com. One more thing... the Kansas State Historical Society keeps a "Kansas Dead Towns List" on file.... listing many defunct communities in Kansas through the years. You might try contacting them. Send your question to: reference@kshs.org An added bit of information.... for the entire Lincoln County research community. We originally had several of our Lincoln County maps online on my family page so as to save space on the ISP used for most of the Lincoln County information (skyways.org). We lost our family ISP a couple months ago and Joan Stevenson was gracious enough to volunteer space on a geocities page she has. I forgot to set up the new links to the geocities pages... which is why several of the maps do not come up on the Lincoln County page right now! My apologies. I checked the indexes of the books I have on Lincoln County history and did not find Agin. However, there are a few Agins in the 1999 phone book for North Central Kansas, which I have. I'll make my usual recommendation - get the microfilm of the old Lincoln County newspapers from the Kansas State Historical Society and see what you can learn from them. Wilda Morris
Hi Audra: Try the Lincoln County Census, they are laid out by town ships & post offices are mentioned. The census are on site on the Lincoln county web page. This should give you a place to start.
