Hello Tracee and other Lincoln County researchers... Just a note about the homestead records. I don't know if this is relevant but the initial applications were published in the newspaper... I've seen many of them as I look through for gleanings. Each application announced in the paper listed that it was filed in either one of two "land offices".... one in Salina and the other in Concordia. The notices in the paper include an application number, the location of the land, and the names of witnesses to the application. Would these land records be filed in Lincoln County or perhaps at the National Archives? I'm really not sure. I'd love to enter all of the homestead applications I find in the 1870's/80's papers I go through. The problem with them is that if I took the time/effort to type all of them up I'd have no time to put in other info that is included for the gleanings (e.g... marriages, deaths, births, arrivals, departures, etc.). If somebody would like to check out the Lincoln newspapers through Interlibrary loan from the Kansas State Historical Society (or if they live in Topeka or Lincoln and have the time to go to the State Historical Society or Lincoln Public Library) and go through them pulling out the land application notices in each issue and donate them to the website that would be great... a lot to ask but what the heck!... I figured I'd give it a try.<grin> Good luck in your research Bill Bill and Diana Sowers - wrs@cjnetworks.com- check out our SCHREMMER-POLLOCK families page at: http://www.cjnetworks.com/~wrs/index.htm Lincoln County Kansas KSGenweb Project page at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/index.html Gove County Kansas KSGenWeb Project page at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/gove/index.html Graham County Kansas KSGenWeb Project page at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/graham/index.html Barton County Kansas ALHN web page at: http://www.geocities.com/irus86/
