Hi, folks. I've added a new bit of information to the Lincoln Cemetery page. There is a very small, unnamed cemetery west of Lincoln that has long interested me, and I have added a page about it, including how it came to be "rediscovered" and markers put in for the war veterans buried there. One man is a War of 1812 vet, another is a Civil War vet who drowned in the Saline River while trying to cross on horseback in 1878. A few months later, his widow lost most of their children to diphtheria. I took the inscriptions out of the Lincoln register, but I think there are actually more graves there than I have indicated, but I'll update as needed. The URL for those interested is http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/cem2.htm I also recently wrote to the Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society in Wichita regarding materials they had listed on their website from Lincoln cemeteries. I got those in the mail this week and have compared them to my own information. I came up with a few names I didn't have. Turns out someone had walked the Monroe Cemetery near Beverly in the late 1950s. Wish I had known before I walked it TWICE last year! (Tape recorder mishap.) But there are mistakes, so I do think it's good to have these cemeteries walked by as many people as possible. The other cemeteries they have are St. John Lutheran and Heiser. Clarence Suelter recently sent me another cemetery listing from the MHGS publication for "Aribitello Cemetery." I wrote for the original hoping it listed the contributor but no luck. There is no "Aribitello" Cemetery but I'm guessing the compiler was going for Orbitello, one of Lincoln's old post offices. However, there also isn't a cemetery called Orbitello. I think this may be the cemetery called Hynes [pronounced "Hinnish"] and I will try to go there in December and investigate further. The surnames on the list are KALB, MILLER and PUTNAM if those are of interest to anyone. There are seven burials there, according to this list, but if this is Hynes, there should be more, so right now it's confusing. I have sent pleas to various folks in Sylvan regarding cemetery listings there but so far have only gotten the plot purchases for the non-Lutheran side of the cemetery. If there's anyone out there with any pull in Sylvan Grove, I could use some help there. Otherwise, I'll hope for no snow in December so I can walk that cemetery. But it is huge, by Lincoln County standards, anyway! The cemetery index now has more than 7,000 names, by my rough reckoning. But without Sylvan and Milo, I'm still not satisfied. Hope everyone's research is going well! Tracee
