On the list mentioned below I found the name of my greatgrandmother's brother (Frank Casner). Since I did not know his exact death date it is helpful to know that it was in this time period. However, since I did not get this obit in previous inquiries to Lincoln County resources, I wonder if you could tell me how I could go about getting a copy of this obit. Hi, folks. Thanks to Clarence Suelter, I have been able to add to the list of obits available for 1880-1883. Clarence was nice enough to clip obits from the Saline Valley/Lincoln Register and pass them on to me, so thanks again, Clarence! Check out the list for your surnames at http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/obit1880-83.htm Good luck! Tracee
Hi, gang. I normally never engage in the virus warning that goes around, figuring you all get it from other places. But I have received about 20 copies of the newest virus email so far, and they keep coming. What disturbs me is after the first 19 failed to get me, a 20th came from a different email address and the subject line had been changed to "ship index." Lucky guess, or an attempt to target genealogy folks? Happily, the text of the message is the same, something like "I seek advise on this document," so I didn't fall for it, but it struck a little close to home and I wanted to pass that information along. Hello all... Just a warning that we got two emails tonight with attachments... both emails, from two different people, had the following message: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Disposition: message text Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice See you later. Thanks [attachment is located below this message] ------------------------ We deleted the attachment and I'm enclosing here a message from Lynn Nelson, professor emeritus at the University of Kansas concerning a virus/worm that might be what the two attachments we got were all about..... ----------Message from Dr. Nelson--------------- In the past twenty-four hours, I've received eight messages containing the W32.Sircam.Worm@mm worm. These messages have come from North and South America, Europe and East Asia, so the distribution appears to be quite extensive. All of the messages have contained either "Te mando este archivo para que me des tu punto de vista" or "I send you this file in order to have your advice," and the files have been listed variously as 124Kb, 116Kb, etc. and all are identified as MIXED. This worm also acts as a virus with a potential of inflicting very serious damage on your machine. Since it was first reported on 17 July, you may not yet have updated your anti-virus software so that it can recognize infected files. Further information is available at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html Lynn --------------------- Our best to you all Bill and Diana Sowers (Lincoln County KS genealogy email list coordinators) Bill & Diana Sowers 1746 Fairmont Rd, Topeka, KS 66604 - bsowers@kscable.com Lincoln Co KSGenWeb: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/index.html Graham Co KSGenWeb: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/graham/index.html Barton Co KS ALHN: http://www.geocities.com/irus86/ Barton Co KSGenWeb: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/barton/index.html Our Family pages: http://home.kscable.com/sowers/index.html
I posted to this list some excerpts of newspaper clippings about this incident sometime ago. They have been added to the "Lnicoln County Stories" page of the web site. Hello, folks! I wasn't sure if everyone had heard that former presidential press secretary Marlin Fitzwater had written a novel based on a Lincoln County event: specifically, the tarring and feathering of the school teacher in 1911. One of Fitzwater's ancestors was among the group of men who took part in the assault. I have ordered the book but not read it yet. He is giving a reading in Salina, Kan., this week -- I think the 17th -- and the Journal did an article some of you might find interesting. http://www.saljournal.com/stories/071301/ent_fitz1.html Tracee

In switching over my email to mailto:murcal@yahoo.com I inadvertently did not resubscribe to a couple of lists, so: If you have requested a lookup in the 1880 census index, and I have not responded, would you resubmit them to me? I can't believe I forgot to post this as well. There is an index now for the 1880-83 obituaries. At some point I'll try to put the text up for all of these but for now, feel free to ask for any you want... http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/obit1880-83.htm Tracee
