    3. Audra: I would suggest you go to the Ellsworth County website: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/ellswort/ and post a query about Aginville. With those directions, it would definitely have been in Ellsworth County. I've never heard of any of those place names or surnames. Tracee

    3. Audra I went to the Kansas State Historical Society site which lists county plat books on microfilm that you can borrow from the Society on Interlibrary Loan (through your local library). Here was the listing for Ellsworth County: Ellsworth County LM 489, no. 15 Plat book of Ellsworth County. Minneapolis: Northwest Publishing Company, 1901. LM 489, no. 16 Standard Atlas of Ellsworth County, Kansas...Chicago: George A. Ogle & Co., 1918. LM 908, no. 1 Pictorial Atlas of Ellsworth County, Kansas... Minneapolis: Overland Cartographers, 1970. If you'll go to the Kansas State Historical Society's Interlibrary Loan page at: http://www.kshs.org/library/illpoli.htm you'll get instructions on how to borrow microfilm from the society through your local library. You can borrow newspapers, census, some old local records and plat books (as well as other stuff). It's a good idea to print off this page and take it to your library so the staff there knows what to do. There is a link on this page to the plat books microfilm collection. The site URL is: http://www.kshs.org/library/atlas.htm Checking under ELLSWORTH County will get you the listing above. Each book has a number that you'll need to use with your interlibrary loan request. My guess (or should I say, "My hope!") is that you'll find mention of just about every geographical location within a county in the plat books. It will also list land owners. Just in case anybody is interested, there are Lincoln COunty plat books available for borrowing from the Society as well. (1901 and 1918) Best of luck Bill Sowers At 04:34 PM 8/7/2001 -0400, you wrote: >Audra: > >I would suggest you go to the Ellsworth County website: > >http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/ellswort/ > >and post a query about Aginville. 3. Sorry for the bad email. will try again, no attachments A very distant relative, just sent me copies of information about Aginville. On an old piece of paper. -- Aginville, Ks - Dad (George F. Agin) born in Lincoln, Co. moved to Aginville in 1905. 8 miles south and 2 miles west of Beverly ( Beverly is scratch out, and Westfall is written in.) Ranchers in that area bought from Aginville store on J. E. Agin Farm. Gus Birgman, first owner of store. Store Closed, then Lyme Hozelton run store - still open 191? Belle Springs Creamery also had a store in Aginville. -- end. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Have a bank loan paper for buying land, stating --- J. E. Agin of Madison Township, Lincoln County, Ks - dated Feb 23, 1907. Location - Section 19 Town 13, Range 6. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Then there is a post card with Vail, Colorado on it, dated August 16, 1979. Addressed to George Agin in Salina, Ks. It says: Dear George: we are here for a day or two. While at Wilson Lake, we took a day to drive out past Hartzells, Hammar Cemetery, Matthews, the Old Anderson Place, Ecklemans, Pleasant Dale, Juanita, Westfall, Turners, Geo. Dimicks, your farm, my Aunt Ella's place, Twin Mound, etc. Lots of change. Hope you are feeling better. ~ ~ ~ ~ I have a picture, that has 4 Aginville post cards, not a picture of the town. they were scanned as one picture. Anyone interest in seeing these, email me. afagin@osprey.net ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Thanks for any help. Audra

    3. Hi Audra: Try the Lincoln County Census, they are laid out by town ships & post offices are mentioned. The census are on site on the Lincoln county web page. 2. Regarding Aginville ... I've never heard of it or seen the name. Over the past few months I've been through newspapers from 1880 to 1900, either on film, on paper, or both, and I've never come across it. I also have an old map from 1879 that has a lot of community names but not that one. It wasn't a school name or a post office name, which are usually where these community names cropped up. I'm wondering if it could be over the Madison Township line in Ellsworth county. Tracee

    3. I checked the indexes of the books I have on Lincoln County history and did not find Agin. However, there are a few Agins in the 1999 phone book for North Central Kansas, which I have. I'll make my usual recommendation - get the microfilm of the old Lincoln County newspapers from the Kansas State Historical Society and see what you can learn from them. Wilda Morris

    3. Hi Audra.... I'm no expert on Lincoln County names but Aginville new to me. I checked the Kansas Post Office Directory and didn't find it there either. Just out of curiosity I put in a search on the US Geological Survey search page and found one thing, a steam in Ohio called "Agins Run." I did find one Agin on the Lincoln County page. If you'll check the page with REES(E) family information at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/rees.htm you'll find a marriage: Mr Millard J REES & Mamie M AGIN Jan 6 1908 Have you contacted Tracee Hamilton? She has a lot of info not on the site and might be able to help you further. Her email address is TraceeHamilton@aol.com. One more thing... the Kansas State Historical Society keeps a "Kansas Dead Towns List" on file.... listing many defunct communities in Kansas through the years. You might try contacting them. Send your question to: reference@kshs.org An added bit of information.... for the entire Lincoln County research community. We originally had several of our Lincoln County maps online on my family page so as to save space on the ISP used for most of the Lincoln County information (skyways.org). We lost our family ISP a couple months ago and Joan Stevenson was gracious enough to volunteer space on a geocities page she has. I forgot to set up the new links to the geocities pages... which is why several of the maps do not come up on the Lincoln County page right now! My apologies.
