new virus reported by CNN The creator of this virus must just be sick in the head. Sending electronic greeting cards is as common as mailing them these days. WORST EVER VIRUS (CNN ANNOUNCED) Please send this to everyone on your contact list. A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored. This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title "A Virtual Card for You". As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't open any mails with subject "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get it delete it. Please pass this email to all your friends. Forward to everyone you know. Also Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was discovered recently. If you receive an email called "An Internet Flower For You," do not open it, delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.Dll files) from your computer. Your computer will not be able to boot up!! Hi, folks. New to the page: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/obit1921.htm Tracee
Hi, folks! Additions to the Lincoln County page for Labor Day 2001: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/murders1920.htm Rather tawdry tale of a woman who murdered her sister and brother-in-law and tried to kill her niece because she wanted to marry her nephew. There have been few murders in the county in 131 years and this is easily the most sensational I know about. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/educ1896.htm List of teachers in 1896, with wages and schools. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/obit1920.htm List of obituaries in Lincoln Sentinel for 1920. As always, shout if you want a copy. Tracee
I am interested in records from the Emmanuel United Church of Christ south of Vesper. Is that church no longer there? If not, does anyone have any idea where it's records would be stored? I am interested in baptismal records. Ruth
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MUSTER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5l.2ADI/18.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Jo: Do you know anything about Robert's second wife Ann? I am researching my Muster family, who emigrated from Switzerland in 1864, lived in NYC at least until 1876; then moved to Valparaiso, IN. My ggrandfather and mother were Samuel (d. in Valpo in 1891) and Susanna Muster(d. in Chicago in 1905). I am convinced they had relatives there; one might have been Johan (John) Muster. But I really have nothing about their siblings or cousins. Samuel and Susanna's children were Sophia (my grandmother), Rosina, Bernhard, Richard, Heinrich, and Fritz. All but Sophia died in early childhood. But maybe the names are helpful. Any possible connections to Ann? Cheers, Judy

My apologies to the Lincoln County KS genealogy list members.... I'm trying to contact Joan Stevenson concerning a possible transcription project. The email address I have went to a very nice lady on the East Coast who couldn't figure out how she, with a BellAtlantic server, got a Verizon server email either!!!! Joan... if you're out there drop me a line and I'll let you know about this genealogy project and see if you're interested. Bill
Hi, folks. Sorry to bother, but I think someone on the list was researching the name WETMORE, possibly Lyman Wetmore? If so, could you contact me off the list? I have a great little "find" for you. Tracee
Hi, folks. I've added a few new items to the Lincoln page. A story about a bad fire on Lincoln's main street: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/fire1896.htm Two stories about hail storms that hit in the summer of 1896. These stories detail all the damage done to crops, etc. There are some AMAZING descriptions of hail in these stories that a Kansas resident can relate to! http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/storm1896.htm http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/2storm1896.htm A list of township officers in 1896 (check this out; I found 2-3 ancestors in there): http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/officers1896.htm A brief history of the start of the Sylvan City Cemetery: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/sylvancem.htm A story about a fight between William Mollenkamp and Rein Wohler: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/scrape1896.htm A story about two former Lincoln residents who got into a fight in a Colorado mining town -- and one ended up dead. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/killing1896.htm Tracee
Hi, folks. I've come across quite a few more obituaries/death notices from the 1896 papers. A lot of these are mentions in correspondents' columns and such, and as a result are not chock-full of information -- but they are all we have. If any of these are of interest to any of you, let me know. Tracee Bird, Clarence W. Bishop, William Eastman Brown, Sarah Cannon, Frank Crowl, Frank Hower, Child Hoyt, Ernest Johansen, J.P. Sometimes I find things that make me laugh so hard I have to share them. This is one of them. I wish I knew more about Ted Harris! Tracee Lincoln Beacon, March 12, 1896 We looked over the battle field and found, tightly clutched in the hand of a dying Lincoln girl, a copy of the Kansas City Star, containing the following item: Ted Harris Among the names on yesterday's register at the Coates House we noticed the name of V.C. (Ted) Harris, of Lincoln, Kan. Mr. Harris is on his way east to join the League at Boston and will play in the seaboard cities during the coming season. It is said that he is escaping from the too lavish attentions of the Lincoln girls and is fleeing to the seashore, where he fondly hopes to pitch his beloved curveballs in peace.
Hi, folks. I know there are several people on this list researching this family, but I can't find the individual emails, so please forgive the intrusion: Lincoln Beacon, Dec. 10, 1896 "Mrs. C. Sorry people, I have an email address for Lincoln Co, Kansas and Linn Co. Mo. I clicked the wrong one. Audra
Hello Audra and Lincoln County researchers.... Several groups are involved with microfilming old local (i.e. county, municipal, township, etc.) records in Kansas... chief among them the LDS (Mormon) Church and the Kansas State Historical Society. Some local agenices have filmed their own records. KSHS has Kansas local records listed online that are available for interlibrary loan at: http://www.kshs.org/archives/lrfilm.htm At the KSGenWeb County Coordinators' Annual Meeting in Topeka last Saturday a librarian at the Society told the group that microfilming is continuting across the state. It's a slow process. Whether records are microfilmed or not and given to the KSHS is up to the local government too. We were also told that the online listing is not complete. There are new microfilmed records not yet listed online. You could write to the Society and ask if records for a county/city have been added recently. The online reference question form is found at: http://www.kshs.org/archives/lrfilm.htm I believe the LDS Church and the Kansas State Historical Society have been working together on the microfilming of Kansas local records but I know little about the LDS side of this. If someone else on the list knows more about the LDS filming of local records I'd be interested in knowing about it. In reference to Lincoln County..... I know of no locally filmed records for Lincoln County at the State Historical Society. Fortunately we have access to many, many local records through the efforts of Tracee Hamilton! Check out the Lookups page at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/lookups.html Tracee has access to this information and will supply upon request. Don't foget to be as clear and concise as you can with what you want! Don't write her and say.... "Give me all the Smith vitals in Lincoln County." Hope this helps. In reference to the email posted earlier about records. Someone else posted: ----- I didn't have an opportunity to go to the library. I did, however, visit the Linn County Courthouse in Linneus, and found old family records there, land transfers and marriages. The people are very nice and helpful, and will copy records when possible, for a small fee. But there are more records in the old depot in Linneus, according to one of the ladies at the courthouse. She said these are the ones that were sent to state to be put on microfilm, and that when the state archive folks were finished with the records, they were returned to Linn County and are stacked in the depot. ----- If the old records are microfilmed, where is the film at? and is it indexed etc. Audra

Hi, folks. A couple of new pages on the Lincoln website. The story of the robbery of the Sylvan State Bank, with a link to the photo of the dead robber http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/sylvanrob.htm A list of students at the Normal Institute, 1894 (for those who might not know, the Normal Institute was schooling for people who wanted to teach, so if your ancestors were teachers, you might find them there) http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/normal1894.htm A list of teachers in 1894 http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/educ1894.htm A list of Suffrage Clubs formed in 1894. Check to see if any of your ancestors were feminists! The clubs included men and women, and there are some familiar names for folks on this list, I know... http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/suffrage1894.htm A history of the building and dedication of St. John Lutheran Church http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/lincoln/stjohn1894.htm And I've added one more name to the 1894 obituary list: Alice Eitel. That's it. Happy hunting! Tracee
Hello again, folks. I've come up with more 1894 deaths/obits as well. Again, some are very brief, but if you want to have a look, let me know. Tracee Andrus, W.H.
