Wells was listed in the 1885 Topeka directory. In the 1887 Topeka directory he is listed as living at 200 Klein (does that street have any relationship to his wife's family?) and living at 201 Klein is John Wells. Jefferson is still in Topeka in 1888 but I do not find John. I assume that John and Jefferson were her only children by John Wells? Do you know John's middle initial?
