The McLouth Times Friday February 10, 1905 Mrs. S.A. Kyle Dies On A Visit In Montana. Was Mrs. R.W. Reynolds Mother. The attached from the Great Falls Montana Leader, of January 30th, concerns the death in that city of Mrs. S.A. KYLE, one of Leavenworth's pioneer women. The news it contains will be read with deep regret on part of many Leavenworth people, particularily the older settlers. Sarah Ann KYLE, the aged mother of A.T. KYLE and G.H. KYLE of this city, died this morning at 3 o'clock at 669 Sixth Ave. south. Mrs. Kyle was 71 years and 6 months of age. She had come here from Leavenworth, Ks. last fall for a visit with the sons and death overtook here before she was able to return to her home. The funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in Highland cemetery. Mrs. Kyle was the only daughter of Geo. H. KELLER, (familiarly known in the early days as Uncle George) who was the builder and owner of the first hotel in Leavenworth, which soon became known as the home of the Free state sympathizers and supporters of that movement. Sarah Ann Keller came to this city in the spring of 1854 with her father, who was one of the founders of the city, and who builded the first wing of the Kansas state prison and was its first warden. Miss Ann, as she was called in those days, was the life and ruling spirit of the well known old 'Leavenworth hotel' and some of the city's oldest residents will remember her hospitality, and all who ever had the pleasure of her acquaintance, then or in later days, were always made welcome in her home and will think back of her with pleasure now mingled with sorrow. Although a Christian woman and an early Methodist, her home was her church and doing good her primary religion. Her eldest daughter, who died here some ten years ago, was the wife of James M. ALLEN and the other daughter, Mrs. R.W. REYNOLDS is a resident of McLouth, Kansas.
