The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday January 12, 1916 Word was received in Topeka yesterday of the death of G.M. COPELAND, a pioneer resident of Kansas, who died yesterday morning at Leavenworth, as a result of an attack of pneumonia. Mr. COPELAND, accompanied by his parents, came to Kansas shortly after the state was thrown open to settlement and took up a farm near Tecumseh. He served four years with the Eleventh Kansas volunteers during the Civil war. He also participated in the battle of the Blue against the condederate general Price, who was attempting to invade Kansas. Mr. COPELAND is survived by four sons, N.E. COPELAND, W.V. COPELAND, F.R. COPELAND, all of Topeka, and R.E. COPELAND, of Dover; and a daughter, Mrs. L.A. THOMAS of Topeka. The body will arrive in Topeka this morning and will be taken to Penwell's undertaking parlors The funeral will be held Thrusday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Penwell's chapel. Burial will be in Topeka cemetery.
