For those of you looking for obituaries of old soldiers. I am scanning the 1924 Leavenworth Times and find short obits for veterans from the old Soldiers' Home. Sometimes they are located in a section called "Soldiers' Home" and other times they are located in the "Local News" or in other places in the newspaper. None are the obits like we are used to now. You can order microfilm of the Leavenworth Times and other local newspapers from your local library through inter-library loan. The address I have is from 1991, so you might need to recheck the address. It is Kansas State Historical Society, 120 W 10th, Topeka KS 66612-1291 The old Soldiers' Home had a post office and it was National Military Home from 10 Jun 1886 to 1 Mar 1932, then it became the V A Home until 1 Mar 1936 when it became Wadsworth KS. Now I think it is part of the Leavenworth KS post office. At one time it had over 3500 veterans living there. Music concerts were held on the grounds and they had a huge globe on a pedestal planted with different flowers to form the all the countries. Martha Shearer in sunny So CA
