Seeking help with my Taylor line. Information from my grandfather (who told everybody a different story) is as follows: Grandfather is Herbert John "Jack" Taylor. Born June 24 (SSDI says 1882, 1930 Census says 1886, family says about 1884). He was born in the Salt Creek Area of Leavenworth County. He is the son of James D. (or James Cooke - There is some confusion as to his father's middle name. SSDI says James D.) Taylor and Caroline Clair Leon Taylor. On February 13, 1913 he married Minnie Bellows in Provo, Utah. They had 5 children - Maxwell Grant, Herbert Bellows (my father), Maurine La Juine, Grace Aileen and Marion Leon - all deceased. James Taylor was supposed to have been born in Boston, MA. He was known as an "English Farmer" and apparently ran freight - both US Government and his own - between Leavenworth and Dodge City. James parents are James Cooke Taylor born in England, married Mary Pugh, born in Ireland. They were probably born 1810-1820. Don't know of any siblings or when James & Mary came to this country. Jack's siblings are: James Francis "Frank" Taylor. Frank possibly served in the Boer War in South Africa (not sure whether he served in the British army or was a mercenary with the Boers.), then as Deputy Warden, Central Convict Station, Boksburg, Transvaal. He was killed around 1911-1913 in a prison uprising. I may have family in South Africa. Frank was older than Jack. Belle Taylor, married to a Harris Smith of Canada. . They were last known to be living in Winnipeg between 1896-1897, and in Brandon, Manitoba after 1897. Belle was older than Frank. Helen Taylor (I have her photo) who married someone named Wilmonet or Will Monet. Helen was also older than Jack Possible other siblings include a brother Robert who may have ended up in Australia and a younger sister Elizabeth. His mother, Caroline Claire Leon Taylor was born in Woodburys, MA approximately 1840-1855. She was the daughter of Francis Leon, born in Paris France. Her mother is unknown. I also have her photo. Caroline died when Jack was about 7 years old. I'm guessing her death was sometime between 1889-1894. She reportedly died in Leavenworth County. Caroline was a Catholic and there may be information of her death in Parish records. Jack was probably baptized in a Catholic church in Leavenworth. May also be cemetery records for both Caroline and James. Possibly a Catholic cemetery. James was said to have remarried after Caroline's death but don't know her name or if there were additional siblings. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Since Taylor is as common as Smith & Jones, this is one of my more difficult lines to trace - my "Brick Wall". Not having any luck with 1880 Census as not sure when they arrived in Leavenworth County. Only know they were there when Jack was born which is anytime between 1882-1886. Might be in 1885 State Census but have not had time to get into that one as yet. So much information and yet so little. Thanks for your help. Judy
