The Oskaloosa Times Friday July 3, 1896 In Memoriam. Last week we made a short mention of the death at Leavenworth of Mrs. Col. LYNDE, and as she was well known to all settlers of the Falls and vicinity we copy the following from the Kingfisher Times, edited by her son-in-law, J.A. MANN, who at one time lived on the quarter of land south of the Falls now owned by J.H. McNUTT: At Leavenworth, Kansas, Friday June 19th, Mrs. Margaret LYNDE, beloved wife of Col. Edward LYNDE, foermly commander of the 9th K.V.C., died. For nearly seven years she hand been an invalid, requiring the assistance of some helpful nurse or attendant, yet she bore with resignation and even cheerfulness the deprivations caused by paralysis. She was born in Chester county, Pa., in 1824, but removed with her father to Stark county, Ohio, while yet a child. She was married to Mr. LYNDE at Marlboro in 1843. This was their home, and here their three children, a daughter and two sons were born. In 1856 the family removed to Valley Falls, Jefferson county, Kansas, whre they resided until after the war, Mr. LYNDE meantime serving in several public capacities, including a Lieutenacy upon General Sturgis' staff then as organizer and commander of the 9th Kansas Cavalry, until his muster out in 1864. Mrs. LYNDE was his companion when possible and ever his devoted mate. She was ever chaita! ble, giving was her native trait and from the kindly spontaneity of her nature, her friends were many. She was buried at Mt. Muncie cemetery, Leavenworth, the services being conducted by a pastor of the Christian church, of which denomination she became a member in her early life. Peace to her memory.
