Marion TODD, one of the most substantial farmers of Platte county, was in town yesterday. Sir Knight D. BYINGTON and lady returned home yesterday well pleased with the Cleveland excursion. Captain B. J. F. HANNA, of the Salina "Herald" visited this city, on his way from Cleveland, yesterday. F. L. COULDOCK, advance agent of Barnum's circus, is in the city. He says the show will come along about the 18th. Jack HILL, the irrepressible bookkeeper of the First National bank, arrived home yesterday from the East with flying colors. The team attached to Mr. MOONEY's hack got frightened yesterday about noon and ran away, completely demolishing the hack. Thomas PLOWMAN leaves to-day on the Kansas Central for the West, and Southwest, for the purpose of advertising our horse and stock fair. Mr. John H. HANLEY, of the sugar, coffee and syrup establishment of Geo. W. FLANDERS of New York, is in the city and the guest of O. B. TAYLOR. We regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Peter CARROLL, which occurred on Sunday evening at her residence, 318 West Seventh street. She leaves a sorrowing husband and four children. A small house in South Leavenworth belonging to J. RODENHAM, and occupied by a colored family was destroyed by fire on Sunday morning. Insured by Martin SMITH in the German American. E. J. FARNSWORTH, of the Missouri Valley Bridge company left yesterday with a large gang of men for the extension of the Narrow Gauge; the company having contracted to build all the bridges on that road. Louis ABRAHAM, one of the most estimable young men of the city, and for many years connected with the great western clothing house of E. Michael, left yesterday for Clay Center. We understand that he is going into business for himself at that place and hope that he will reap abundant success from the undertaking. Mr. S. K. KNOX, secretary of the railroad meetings that were held here, to favor the advance of the K.C., St. L & C. R. R., has returned from St. Louis where he had been to confer with Hon. J. J.
