    3. I have my ggg-grandfather's plot number at Leavenworth National Cemetery, just hoping to find some records so I can hopefully find an exact birthdate and location....that is so elusive for this guy! I'll see about ordering the Leavenworth Times...thanks for the tip. Debbie ----- Original Message ----- From: "auntie-m" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 9:15 PM Subject: Re: [KSLEAVEN] Re: Levenworth Soldiers Home The Leavenworth Times can be ordered through Interlibrary Loan at your local library. I am pretty sure at that time, there was a section for the soldier's home and it listed men who had died that week. If he is buried at the Leavenworth National cemetery in the VA's grounds, they will give you info from the burial. There is also the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery that is located at the fort north of Leavenworth. Leavenworth is my hometown. 2. The Soldiers Home is the VA Medical Center. Back when the facility first opened the soldiers were required to follow military regulations....uniforms for formations, retreats, and parades, etc. It was first known as the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Western Branch. Civil War Veterans had to apply for admission. There were 13 barracks in 1885 when the home opened. I think they housed around 900-1000 men or more. The hospital was built in 1886 and the facility later became known as the Wadsworth Veterans Center when the Veteran's Administration was established. Eventually it was renamed the Dwight D. Eisenhower Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center. A couple of years ago Topeka and Leavenworth Veteran's Facilities joined forces to become the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. The Leavenworth facility is now known as the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System - Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center. There are records available but I do not know how far back they go. Someone on the list recently asked and was told that the very old records had been destroyed. I called and checked and was told that there are old records that are stored in another building away from the Medical Records building. The person that I talked to did not know how far back the records went. There is also a cemetery there that used to fall under Veteran's Affairs. A while back it was transferred to the National Cemetery Service. There is a website for the National Cemetery Service, but I am not sure of the URL. The cemetery listings are online at that website for the cemetery that used to be known as the Veteran's Cemetery. I am not sure of the phone number for the office of the cemetery. The phone number for the VA Medical Center is: (913) - 651 - 2000 (ask for the Medical Records division or the Release of Information division) The address is: VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center 4101 S. 4th Street Trfwy Leavenworth, Ks 66048 Hope this information helps someone out. 3. I was one of the people asking for info on this hospital several months back. I called them and they told me that records for 1914 had been destroyed. That was the year my ggg-grandfather died at the old soldier's home. He was very new and did not speak English real clearly and I think we did have trouble making ourselves understood. I might try calling back again and see if any luck. Lupton was enumerated on the 1900 Census in Putnam Co., Mo. I have the following info on a David E. Lupton, but I do not know who he is: >From Cemetery Inscriptions in Highland Co., Ohio: Village of Highland, Fairfield Township M. E. Church, est. in 1837, destroyed by a storm in 1862. The Hardin Creek Cemetery, Hicksite Quaker Cem. Lupton, infant of David E. and Ellen E. Lupton's children, Charles 1872-1966, Cora Blanche Lupton 1874-1896, and Lanson Lupton, 1876-1953. It appears there is little info re David E. Lupton aft. 1883. 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members,. I receive over 25 requests a day from members from all of the lists I take care of asking me to unsubscribe them. Please take a moment and check out Password Central so you will know how to take care of this yourselves if the need arises. Go to http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions. (type in your e-mail address, click on "Mailing lists: To which lists am I subscribed?" and don't forget to click on SEND at the bottom of the screen). You will receive an e-mail within moments that will provide you a list of all Rootsweb lists you belong to. From this e-mail you can unsubscribe yourself from any list you wish. I know there are times you will need me to help like when you loose an e-mail address before you have a chance to unsubscribe. Know that I am here for you and you only need to ask. But for your general unsubscribing please use the above link or just send the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the same manner you SUBSCRIBED to the list. I appreciate your support and thank each of you for helping to make this list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
