Surnames: Taylor, Henderson, Gray Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fm.2ADE/212 Message Board Post: I am trying to find information about my gggrandfather, Cyrus Taylor. I found him living with his daughter and her husband, Gertrude and John Henderson, on the 1885 state census in Tonganoxie Twp, Leavenworth. At that time, Cyrus was about 68 yrs old. I haven't been able to find a date of death or burial place for him. I do know, from a journal written by one of his sons-in-law, that Cyrus worked as a store clerk for a well know local merchant, R Gray and that he retired from the job in the late 1870's. So I have 2 requests. If anyone has access to the reference book with the cemeteries of Leavenworth Co, could I please request a lookup for Cyrus Taylor? Also, if anyone has any information about R Gray and possibly his businesses, I'd like to learn about that too. Thanks for any help, Colleen Lill Canada

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fm.2ADE/210 Message Board Post: I hope someone can help me. I am looking for a Hermon and Margaret Foster who lived in Leavenworth from approximately 1859 to 1886. I found them in the 1860, 1870, 1880 Federal censuses as well as the 1865 State census. I also found them in the 1886 city directory. After this, they disappear. I looked for their burials in Leavenworth National cemetary but that is all. I could use a couple things: 1. Could someone do a cemetary lookup on these folks? I would assume that they would be buried near Leavenworth since they always lived in the first ward of the town. He was a laborer. 2. Could someone do a lookup in the 1855, 1875 and 1885 state census to see if they are there? 3. What German churches were in the Leavenworth area between 1859-1900? I thought I could look in church records if I could figure out where they may have gone. 4. Is there another death index available for years as early as 1885? 5. I noticed in the 1865 census that Herman and Margaret lived with two other couples: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nupert and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gailor. 6. I would think that since they lived in the area for so long that they may be mentioned in a centennial of Leavenworth. Is there a book that is available? I would appreciate any help. You can email me direct at [email protected] THANKS Tammy Russell

Years ago before I knew what I was doing in genealogy, I found on some site somewhere a whole bunch of O'Brien's in buffalo NY. I did also find a William married to a Elizabeth Pickett somewhere in up state ILL. I sort of remember him being born in 1822. I don't know if it was him or what site it was on, I never found it again. His daughter Anna, my g-g-grandma was born in 1869 and she was one of the youngest of the 10 kids of his. I did find Anna's sister Minnie in the ILL marriage site, but her name was spelled wrong, it said Minnie O'Brein married James Stone. I have some not so good news, I have been very ill for two years and I just found out it is probably Thyroid cancer. Sucks Hugh! The worst part is I was told there was nothing wrong with me and that all I needed was a shrink. The idiot Dr.'s were stupid enough to put that in writing. I got them by the balls now. If I get real rich off of this I plan on traveling t! he country doing my genealogy. Sounds fun hugh? I just hope I live! Keep up the nice work and thanks for all your kind help, I really appreciate it, Valerie

In fact, I think they even have a Leavenworth newspaper. Unfortunately, there is no index for the articles. If you had a death date, I would be able to find the article for you. I do some research with these papers, I'll keep my eye out for Leonard. I'm at a standstill with my O'Brien research. Your Buffalo remark interests me. Briefly, here's what I have: my great-grandfather (John O'Brien) born in Massachusetts about 1852. He died in Buffalo, NY 10 January 1894. His obit mentions two brothers: William and Michael F. John O'Brien had three children (Loretta, Frederick, and Thomas). They moved to Dunmore, PA with their mother after their father died. (Frederick was my grandfather.)
Jack, This is the Leavenworth county site, but that also takes in Leavenworth city. Does this site refer mostly to Leavenworth City or County?

Could someone tell me how I could get a copy of an obituary for Thomas M. Hopkins that ran in the Tonganoxie Mirror on April 28, 1938? I ordered a microfilm from the Kansas State Historical Society over two months ago, and never received it. Is there somewhere else I can look? Better yet, is it possible for someone to get a copy for me? I would be glad to pay for any costs involved. Thomas Hopkins was a resident of Linwood, Kansas from 1871 to 1938. Thanks for any help.
