    1. [KSLEAVEN] Leavenworth Soldiers Home
    2. Richard A. Pence
    3. I am seeking information on the following person, as given in the index to the 1920 U.S. Census on Ancestry.com January, John View Image Online Age: 74 Year: 1920 Birthplace: Tennessee Roll: T625_537 Race: White Page: 3A State: Kansas ED: 88 County: Leavenworth Image: 53 Township: National Military Home It appears from the above that this may have been a Federal institution? I presume, then, that the records are with the VA (if not, where?). Also, in looking around on the Net I say references to the Veterans Administration Center at Leavenworth. Is this the same as in the 1920 census records. About two weeks ago the newspapers carried the story that Gertrude January, widow of CW veteran John January died at her home in Tennessee. They were married when he was 81 and she 18 in 1927. His age and place of birth match those of the veteran above and I am trying to find out if the one in the 1920 census is the same man who married 7 years later in Tennessee! (I guess he was resting up for his pending marriage to an 18-year-old woman! <g>) Any advice of research paths appreciated. Regards, Richard A. 3. I found that our grandfather Thomas E. Gresham died in Leavenworth County October 19, 1947. His obituary appeared in the paper on October 20, 1947 on page 8 of the Leavenworth Times. I was wondering if anyone could find this for me. I will gladly pay for coping and postage. The Leavenworth Public library has this on Microfilm. We have looked for years for information on Thomas' death, and it would be a great help to us to have this. I located the information on page 8 of the Leavenworth Times. It says: Death of Veteran The body of Thomas E. Gresh- am, a war veteran, who died Sunday night at the Wadsworth hospital, will be removed Tues- day morning from the Davis fu- neral church to Buena Vista, Ga. for funeral services and inter- ment. I copied it if you wish me to scan and send it to you as an attachment. Carolk
