SCHAFFER (or SHAFFER) who married MARGARET A. CLARK on February 10, 1871. They were probably married in Pennsylvania, in or near Jefferson County or Clarion County. I believe Samuel and Margaret came to Leavenworth, Kansas about 1884. Samuel Schaffer/Shaffer was born in 1854 (in unknown), and died Dec. 31, 1910 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Margaret A. Clark was born Sept. 5, 1853 (in unknown), and died Dec. 25, 1933. She also is buried in Mount Calvary Cemtery, Leavenworth, KS. Margaret was the daughter of Patrick Clarke and Catherine (Cudahay/Cuddy) Clarke. CHILDREN of SAMUEL E. and MARGARET A. SCHAFFER: 1. JOHN PATRICK SHAFFER--born Nov. 10, 1871 in Corsica, PA (Union Township, Jefferson Co.); died May 14, 1947 in Leavenworth, KS. Spouse: Mary Ann Bonskowski (aka Marie or Maria). 2. DANIEL SHAFFER--lived in Kansas City, MO in early 1911. 3. ELSIE SHAFFER--born Oct. 4, 1874; died Jan. 15, 1972. Spouse: William Hickory Arnold. 4. SHAFFER--born Oct. 7, 1885; died Oct. 28 or Oct. 29, 1967. 7. FRANK W. SCHAFFER--born 1867; died Oct. 24, 1918. 8. ANNE V. SCHAFFER--born 1878 (possibly 1873); died Oct. 10, 1915. 9. KATHERINE SHAFFER--married a Mr. Les Fowler. 10. MARY SHAFFER--may have married a Mr. Barthel. Children buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas: John Patrick Shaffer Elsie Shaffer Arnold James Burke Shaffer Bernard T. Shaffer George A. Shaffer Frank W. Schaffer Anne V. Schaffer Possibly Mary Shaffer, buried as Mary Barthel Margaret and Samuel Schaffer's headstones have the spelling of SCHAFFER, but other documents use SHAFFER. Two of their children, Anne and Frank, also have the SCHAFFER spelling on their headstones. If you have any additional information on Samuel E. and Margaret A. Schaffer, please contact me via e-mail at: [email protected] Thank you! Elaine S.

To the best of my knowledge the Federal Prison always did their own laundry. The only laundry, in Leavenworth, that I can remember would have been Bell Laundry; however, they have been out of business for a lot of years. You might try contacting the FOIA officer at the Bureau of Prisons. WWW.BOP.GOV. According to the Bible Paul E. and Matilda had 3 children, 2 of which died young in Levensworth, Kansas. Leaving only a daughter to carry on the family. I am looking for family who would like to have the Bible. My mother purchased it in San Jose, CA at a used book store about 25 years ago. If you can prove lineage by supplying me with some information in the Bible and are willing to reimburse us for the cost of the Bible and the shipping we are willing to send it to you. The Bible is in very good shape.
Jim, I , for one, totally agree. Kathleen Burnett deserves a medal for her unceasing attention to the lists she handles! Good Morning, If I could, I would like to say the following, I belong to many lists at rootsweb and post almost daily to several, and would like to say that you have got to be the Best "List Mom" I have seen on any of the lists I am familiar with, as very few take the time to remind us folks out here of what is actually going on. Thank you for all your time and trouble and consideration. Have a good one!! Jim
