    2. Dear Linda, My great grandparents are buried in Mt. Muncie Cemetary. When you find out exactly where your person is buried, let me know and next time I go I will take pictures of the gravestone if you like. The cemetary is very large. Regards, Marsha Becker

    2. My understanding is that is very difficult to get records from them, not because they do not want to cooperate but rather due to the location of the records. You should probably call the VA center (913-682-2000) and ask for "Release of Information." Whoever is working there should be able to help you out. I will do some checking for you as well. 3. Hi Genie, thanks for the info, but I didn't have much luck with that site. It just tells the history of the hospital, etc which I already know and then it wouldn't let me go back to the home page. I checked out the interment page which Ken Payne sent (THANKS, Ken) but John Buchanan wasn't listed. You asked for more information about MY John Buchanan. He was born about 1841 (from census info). Those sources say he was born in NY (yet to be verified). He was in Boone County, IL in 1870 census, and in Oneida County, NY in 1880 census. I do not know parents, siblings, etc. I know he married Helen Pooler and had 6 children. I have information that says he enlisted in 1861 in Marcy, NY (which is where his wife is from) age 20 (correct age for him) which would make him a veteran, eligible for the hospital. The census record for the hospital in 1920 lists John Buchanan, widow, age 78 (taken Jan 6-7, so age would be correct), listing place of birth as NY. He was on their list for 1915-1916 also. Things fit but don't know how to verify. If I write to them, will they release information?? I appreciate your help very much! 1. [KSLEAVEN] Memorial Day - Lonely Graves
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    3. You could order out the microfilm AR 7466 ( Willis Pawny to J W Rowley) from the Kansas State Historical Society through your local public library. This is the Index to the Inmate Records of the Kansas State Penitentiary 1861-1952. If I remember correctly there only the names and aliases, but maybe more. 1. Re: [KSLEAVEN] Leavenworth 1880 census Prison
    2. I saw your posting to the mailing list concerning your ancestor in Fort Leavenworth Prison in 1880. I also have an ancestor in that same prison and that same year. I used "The Source" book a guidebook of American Genealogy, this book recommended that I write to the Fort Leavenworth Prison to request records. The book provided the address to write to them. I wrote to them. I received a very prompt response and they were very nice about it. They do not have archives and records. They recommended that I get retired military records. They said that you could only be a prisoner at Fort Leavenworth if you were in the military. They also said that being so long ago, 1880, there may not be any records. I tend to disagree with this because Civil War records are available so why wouldn't records from 1880 be available. Let me search out the information as to where they recommend I send to for these records. I will post later to the list. Sharon
