Does the 1859 Kansas State census show family members? I found a clue on AncestryPlus and copied the following information. I would like to know whether I can learn any additional information. Shall I borrow a microfilm? Kansas Census, 1850-90. Bounds, A. J. State: KS Co: Leavenworth Co. Twp: Leavenworth Database: KS1859 State Census Index Year: 1850 Page: 059 BTW, the same person is shown on the Leavenworth, Kansas Voter Registration, 1859 as: Bounds, A.J., laborer, Cincinnati Street, Fourth Ward. His wife Margaret (Pritchett) Bounds died there cirac 1859 and I never found her death information. Any suggestions? After that, A. J. Bounds moved to Missouri. Thank you. Zelda Dubel. Dear List Members, I received the following announcement on the KS-Family-Group-Sheets Mailing List and thought it would be of interest to many of you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom "I'm happy to announce a new Special Project, the Kansas Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/kansas/ . I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/) links to all the states. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Kansas are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Kansas, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY PERSONS WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family into other states, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Kansas. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox! Charles Barnum, KS FGS manager" I started my genealogy research in Kansas about 40 years ago.

I am not sure if you already have this information or not but here are a couple of biographies for you. At the end of each biography there is a link to William G. Cutler's History of the state of Kansas first published in 1883 by A. T. Andreas, Chicago, IL. The link to each biography can be found at the end of the biography below. J. P. BAUSERMAN, was born in Delaware County, Ohio, April 14, 1840. His boyhood was spent on his father's farm, and his education was acquired in the common schools. When he was sixteen years old he commenced teaching, from the proceeds of which he supported himself at Dennison University until he reached the senior year, when on account of ill health he left college and entered the law office of the Hon. Charles Sweetser. In September, 1862, he enlisted in the volunteer service as First Lieutenant and resigning from the field hospital, he came to Kansas in February, 1863, locating in Leavenworth County. He engaged in farming and stock-raising. In November, 1864, Mr. Bauserman married Miss Laura Ehart, the only daughter of C. C. Ehart, a prominent Leavenworth County farmer. Two children, Marshal Perry and Ella M., are the fruits of this marriage. In November, 1865, Mr. Bauserman was elected to the House of Representatives from his district, being the youngest member of the legislative body. In 1870, he was, without solicitation, elected Superintendent of Public Instruction, of Leavenworth County, and was re-elected in 1872, running over twelve hundred votes ahead of his ticket. In 1874, he was elected to the State Senate; from Leavenworth County, and served his constituents so satisfactorily during the sessions of 1875 and 1876, that he was tendered a unanimous re- nomination by his party, which he was compelled to decline on account of failing health. In 1876, he was appointed a member of the Board of Trustees of the State Charitable Institution, and was also elected President of the Board of Commissioners of the Topeka Insane Asylum. In April, 1877, he purchased an interest in the Brown Medicine and Manufacturing Company, and was elected Secretary and Advertising Manager, which position he held till his resignation of the same, which took effect September 1, 1882. In January, 1881, Mr. Bauserman organized the Kansas Canning and Preserving Company, the first institution of the kind in the State of Kansas. He has twice been elected President of the company, and to his efforts is largely due the success that has marked its history. Mr. Bauserman is senior member of the finest retail drug store of Leavenworth, and the owner and manager of one of the finest farms in the county. Altogether, Mr. Bauserman is a worker, a man of irrepressible ambition and enterprise, and the most of praise that he will allow us to say of him is that his integrity has never been questioned by his neighbors, and his word is as good as his bond. http://www.kancoll.org/books/cutler/leavenworth/leavenworth-co-p31.html#HIGH _PRAIRIE JAMES BAUSSERMAN, retired farmer, P. O. Lansing, was born in Virginia, October 16, 1809, and was identified with the profession of teaching there. In 1838, he located in Delaware County, Ohio, and followed his profession there for a few years, completing a period of nineteen years in its service. He afterward engaged in farming successfully. In 1863, he located here, and has been actively identified with the farming and stock industry of this locality since. In 1833, he married Miss Mary A. Ogelvie, of his native State. They have a family of thee sons and two daughters - J. Henry, minister in Christian church; Joseph P., Druggist, Leavenworth; Francis M., livery and feed stable business; Amanda A., now Mrs. Joseph M. Orndorff, farmer of Jefferson County; Martha O., now Mrs. Jno. C. Evans, farmer and stock-raiser of Jefferson County. For the last thirteen years Mrs. Bausserman has very successfully treated and cured cancers, during which time she has removed over 600 cancers, many of which were of the most malignant form. Her treatment is painless and thorough. http://www.kancoll.org/books/cutler/leavenworth/leavenworth-co-p32.html#DELA WARE_CITY Here is the link to the Home page of Cutler's History of Kansas. http://www.kancoll.org/books/cutler/ There are tons of biographies listed. I am not sure if there is an index for the book that is online. Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. My suggestion is; If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your old e-mail address, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to [email protected] or [email protected] if you are on the Digest List. Naturally change the XXXXXX to the name of the list. If all else fails, contact me, but be understanding if it takes me a while to get to you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
