(Two sons, George and Thomas Weidner Jr., cannot find).George was born 1853-4 and Thomas born 1856. Did find George Weidner listed on res. listing about 1900, near St. Joseph, and Thomas Weidner, on voting record, near Chicago, where one was supposed to have been at that time. They seemed to have skipped the census, as both should be on familysearch census in 1880.

I have had so much trouble trying to locate my family of David and Jane James - when last sighted in was in the 1841 census of cardiganshire. Known children - Thomas, Anne, John, Margaret, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Evan Hugh (1837/38), David, Mary, James, Catherine and Sarah. I am (pretty sure) related to Jane. Do you think there could be a connection. Look forward to hearing from you. Mandy

Would anyone know how to find out if a relative was commissioned to join George Custer in the Indian Conflicts, ie Little Bighorn? Family story says that Simeon JAY was to join Custer (was given the red necktie) but became ill with dysentary. Any way to confirm the story. He did serve under Custer in the 2nd WV Regiment at Appomattox. Thanks, Kim

Surnames: Kollenborn Moore Pennington Hilly Shannon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Fm.2ADE/377 Message Board Post: I am writing a book that is primarily about my two grandfathers, one of whom has a Leavenworth county connection. Albert was a guard at Leavenworth as a young man. In fact, I think he was underaged at the time and had to have his parent's consent to work there. He only worked there a short time, I believe. Are there any records of guards that worked there? Or does anybody know anything of the Kollenborn family that lived, off and on, in Kansas? I would especially like to have the name of Albert's mother (may have been Huddleston or Huddelson or Hudelson), when Henry Harrison Kollenborn died, and what was reported/known about his death or disappearance (his body was never found, but his car was found by the Missouri River). William Kollenborn, born c. 1836 Jerseyville, IL married Sharlet Hilly, born c. 1840 Jerseyville, IL --> James Wesly Kollenborn, born 1862 Jerseyville, IL married 1885 Nellie Jean Moore, first wife, born 1869 Greenville, PA (Nellie died 1900) married 1902 Rosa Pennington, second wife, born 1872 Tina, MO ----> Henry Harrson Kollenborn, born somewhere in Kansas ------> Albert Lee Benjamin Kollenborn (my grandfather)
This is not my line. 1870 Kansas, Leavenworth, High Prairie: Wager, Sabastine, 47, M, W, Farmer, Wurtenburg (Germany) Agate, 40, F, W, Keeping House, France Anestine, 16, F, W, Housekeeper, France Caroline, 11, F, W, At home, Missouri Josephine, 9, F, W, Kansas Jacob, 7, M, W, Kansas Louie, 4, M, W, Kansas Mary, 2, M, W, Kansas In 1910, she is listed as Agate, and son Louis is living with her. Lists her parents as being born in France. Says she had 7 children, 4 of which are still living as of 1910. 1870 shows 6 of the 7 children. She's also widowed by 1910. 1860 Kansas, Leavenworth, Leavenworth Sabestial Wager, 37, M, Stone Mason, Wurtenburg Augusta, 30, F, France Ernestine, 5, F, France Ernest, 4, M, France Catherine, 2, F, Missouri Ernest must one of the ones who died as he is not there in 1870. Having great grandparents who were born in Germany and moved here, I can tell you that the accent can be very thick and hard to understand, especially when they first come over, my great grandmother never lost her accent, and it was still quite thick when she died in 1993, even though she came over here in 1931! Sabastine is listed in the KS directories for 1890, 1892, and 1893, in 1900 Agatha is widowed, Louis lives with her, and she claims she had 6 children here, 4 of whom have died, the six is probably wrong. Can't find them in 1880, yet.........time to go to work, I'll look more for you later. Hope this helps you.
