I found a death notice for Bridget--not much to it, doesn't even mention her first name. However, I believe it is she, because there is a Bridget Coffey 1804-Dec. 30, 1878 buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leavenworth. It is on Findagrave. The John Coffey who died in 1906 is her son. And there is a "Cook Coffey" died April 9,1887 who I suspect is Luke--the dates of death are the same. Someone probably could not read the old handwriting or misunderstood his name.I have sent a message to the person who created his memorial to correct the name, and link him to Bridget. "COFFEY--Died, at her residence, Main street, between Pawnee and Dacotah streets, Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from her late residence. Friends of the family are invited to attend." (The Leavenworth Times, Dec. 31, 1878) I don't know if Nicholas is their son or grandson--I just know he is listed on the 1860 and1865 census with Luke and Bridget, ages 18 and 24, respectively. Both censuses gave his birthplace as Ireland. The 1865 gave his profession as "regular soldier" but I can't find him in any Kansas military records. I do think that John and Martin were their sons. I believe Martin moved to Jackson Co., Kansas--he was married to a Julia McCann in Leavenworth. I found Luke and Bridget on the 1875 census; they gave their previous residence as New York. However, on the 1885, Martin gave his residence previous to Kansas as Illinois. I also think at one time most of them were in Massachusetts. I am not related, just nosy. Nicholas does turn up with them. We are not sure how he is related. Contact me off line and I'll intro you to other researchers in our family tree. Their emigration route went from Ireland to NYC to Westchetser County ( Peekskill/Town of Cortlandt) , maybe PA (since my line has a son b. PA but they want back to NY), ILL then KS. I found Luke with my Patrick in a Thomas Perkins ship record in 1848. There as also a Mary on that ship, not sure if she was a daughter or wife of my Patrick. I went through all Irish records filmed by LDS and found the children but not my Luke. my email is wolf6pack@aol.com Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Funeral this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home (The Leavenworth Times, April 10, 1887) I did not find one for Bridget; odd that he is not found on the 1875, 1880, or 1885 censuses. The enumerator must have either misspelled his name or had poor handwriting. He is listed in the Leavenworth city directories from 1870 until his death. He had a son named John, and either a son or a brother named Martin--the three are listed on the 1859 Leavenworth County, Stranger Twp. census, and all say they came to Kansas in 1857. The 1865 census lists Luke, Bridget and a 24 year old Nicholas Coffey. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did find Luke and Bridget on the 1875 in Leavenworth--it gives their previous residence as New York, if that helps.
