A death certificate has a lot of information on it (if filled out properly). Some of those things are where and when a person was born, the names of their parents (including the mother's maiden name) and the states/countries where they were born. When you have that information, it will help you find other information. Regarding your grandfather, Robert Moore is a very common name. When I searched the Social Security death index, I found 60 of them born in 1939. Without additional info there, it will be very difficult to identify him.
