Lucy's parents, Danial and Elizabeth Fleming, came to America in 1828 from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire with their first three children. They were settled in western Pennsylvania, Erie County, until about 1839/40 when they moved to Canada West for free land - he was a retired, injured Royal Navy Midshipman. While in PA they had three more children including Lucy. I have the ships manifest for their arrival in 1828 in New York, then the baptismal records for the three PA-born children from St. Lukes Church of England in Burlington, Canada West in 1840. Thus the confusion in the US Census records of 1860, 1870 etc. My only wonder now is how, why and when Lucy got from Milton, Canada West (1851/52 Census of Canada West) to Olathe, Kansas. The article mentions Julius working with emmigration in Kansas. I wonder if he ever travelled to Canada West in order to encourage migration?
