    1. [KSJOHNSO] New research site for Johnson County

    3. Hello everyone-- As part of my "Kansas History and Heritage Project," I have created a website for Johnson County: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksjohnhp/index.html Included on the site is the following data: ~ under "Directories": 1867-68 Business Directory ~ under "History": 1859 registered voters, Olathe Twp. ~ under "Census": 1875 Kansas State Census, Shawnee Twp., Surname Index and Census Images ~ under "History": County Officials, 1861-1914 ~ under "Military": 1894 G.A.R. posts and rosters ~ under "Census": 1865 Kansas State Census, Aubry Twp., Surname Index and Census Images ~ under "Biographies": 103 bios from "History of Johnson County," 1915 ~ under "Schools": Olathe High School Class of 1921 photos ~ under "History": "Old Settlers' Association," 1907 registrants ~ under "Military": "Fifty Years After", sketches of Civil War vets from Olathe in 1911 ~ under "Schools": 1886 School Clerks ~ under "Obituaries": Over 150 obits added, most between 1896-1922 ~ under "History": 1876 history ~ under "Directories": 1874 Index and Business Directory ~ under "Schools": 1912 List of Teachers in Accredited Schools ~ under "Family Files": 1907 Reunion of Dr. William Smith descendants ~ under "Military": 1914 Olathe G.A.R. roster As you can see, there is not a whole lot of information on the site at this time, but I plan to add more data in the coming months. Also, be sure to check out my "Online Counties" page to see if I have a website for your other Kansas counties of interest. If you have any family histories, obits, documents etc., that you would like to see on the site, I will be happy to add it. I try not to duplicate information that has already been transcribed on other websites, and I always check projects such as Kansas Genealogy Trails and Kansas USGenWeb to make sure that the data I am adding is not already transcribed and on a website. This website features a search engine, but I strongly urge you to browse the data, as some of the spelling of surnames is questionable. Johnson is the 69th county in this project--only 36 counties to go! I hope to have all Kansas counties online within the next two years, but until I can gather enough data for a specific county, I will store the files for that county on the state website: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kahhp/index.html This website houses also statewide information (such as maps, military histories, college files, etc.) as well as serving as a repository for data for the "orphan" counties, and links to counties that do have their own sites. Thanks, Sheryl
