I'm curious---is your MARTIN line of Irish descent? And if so, was your earlier MARTIN line in Iowa before moving on to Kansas? Carol Searching: Martin and Burke in Iowa, Kansas, and Ireland Carol, I have a Family Record Page (a copy) that begins with: John C. Martin Born in Dublin, Ireland 1815. Died Aug 1881 Martha Martin Born Mt. Holly New Jersey Oct 1820. Died at Ft. Scott, KS Jan 5th, at 2a.m. 1898 Age 78 years (I assume that Martha - no maiden name - was John C.'s wife) I haven't searched for with John of Martha - especially since her maiden name is not given! The children: I will name them and place of birth if given. If you wish their death dates I will gladly provide them, but if there is no interest in this family - I'm not typing all of the dates ha! I will if you like! Mary Ellen, b. Dayton, OH Ara Belle Catherine Died in Dayton, birth place not given Sarah Ann birth place not given James K. Polk Martin John Stacy Martin William Peter Martin Thomas Addis Emmett Martin (I know he was in KS his whole life and have visited his grave here in KCKS) George Owen Martin It was Thomas Addis Emmett Martin that I traced, as his wife was a relative of my mother's. I didn't find them in Iowa at any time but can't say about the other children listed above. They could have moved onto Iowa. If there is anything else you would like to know just ask! As I said, the others may have moved to Iowa - I did once - for a year. Long enough for me! By the way, I have learned not to go by names given. Thomas at some point became, Addison E. Martin, and my mother always called him Uncle Ad. Susan PS My father's maternal side were Burkes - from Ohio, originally from Pennsylvania and Germany. They go way, way back and I haven't worked on them yet, just dipped a toe in that water! A lot of health issues with family members and both of my parent's died in the last year after illnesses and falls with broken hips and legs. Thankfully, they are at peace now for which I am very grateful. My father never seemed to know anything about family, other than immediate and grandparents - none were from Iowa, that I know of at this point. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
