I have seen them listed in new york often on the same census page with the waights. she was my 3 cousin , we shared the same Thomas Waight Sr. 3 grandfather. However now this other waight relative has also this info on hancock but i can't find either. well let me know if you come across something. Thanks for answering. I have heard the name Ostrander mentioned before as a maiden name for Clarissa. It was said that the woman who found the name was working in the Steuben County Clerks office and has researched it. Unfortunately, that woman has passed away so the information could not be verified. I would be interested in going back from Thomas Waight b. 1782 in Rhode Island but I have not been successful there either. I was told the Waights came from England/Wales. I will continue to share information with you as it comes. I do not have a family tree posted online. I believe my mother-in-law might. Her name is Maureen Waight Law. Thanks for sharing. I am actively working again on my tree and published it online. Of course you can't see current people that are alive but the Thomas waights i have made some progress with as far as Thomas waight married to clarissa. But i have yet to verify her maiden name. one relative thought it was Ostrander but recently i met another relative , 2 or 3 cousin working on this and she had a letter from her husbands mom who thought whe was a hancock. Now Thomas Waight Sr, born 1879 i have not gotten any further. I have one letter that says he had always been told that the waights came from the Netherlands or Germany. But i dont have the subcription for the world search so cant go any further. There were a lot of waits in Rhode Island and many went to Massachusetts but it seems thomas' family went to the lakes area of new york. send me a link to your tree if it is online. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/46438600/family jplaine@charter.net . sincerely , Junie Waight/Laine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Lucy's parents, Danial and Elizabeth Fleming, came to America in 1828 from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire with their first three children. They were settled in western Pennsylvania, Erie County, until about 1839/40 when they moved to Canada West for free land - he was a retired, injured Royal Navy Midshipman. While in PA they had three more children including Lucy. I have the ships manifest for their arrival in 1828 in New York, then the baptismal records for the three PA-born children from St. Lukes Church of England in Burlington, Canada West in 1840. Thus the confusion in the US Census records of 1860, 1870 etc. My only wonder now is how, why and when Lucy got from Milton, Canada West (1851/52 Census of Canada West) to Olathe, Kansas. The article mentions Julius working with emmigration in Kansas. I wonder if he ever travelled to Canada West in order to encourage migration? Ask the folks at the library to make sure they check the KC Stat obituaries. That is the major metro newspaper and almost all obits for the region are published in it. The Johnson County library obituary index only lists obituaries published for Johnson County residents. Hope you get luck and they find the obituary in the Star.
