Would that be alright with you? I am going to get my hair cut and get groceries, so if you don't hear back until at least mid-afternoon, you'll know why! My Tree is private and only family members can see it as they have been invited. I checked and I can't even see my own pictures in the listings - maybe if I clicked on them I could but I tried clicking on pics in the list of photos that weren't mine and got the message that I could contact the person for permission - of course, they could say no. Send me your email address, so that I can invite you to see the Tree. I hope you are pleased and have more that you might add to it. I will need your email address anyway to put you in the "guest" list! I knew there was a Diann but never heard from her and my cousin who lives in Wichita didn't find her in a current phone book - that was over 2 years ago as I recall. So no, I didn't know anything but her name and that she had two marriages (online Johnson County info.) So, I didn't know there was a you!I'm glad to meet you and hope that we get to know each other - even if I am OLD! This is cool. I have to study what you wrote again tomorrow. And I'd love to be a part of your private site and see what information you have gathered. I am fairly well versed in the Martins as well (and yes, I know who Nancy Festa is), and I called my Uncle Mark this evening after I read your posting. I can definitely help you fill that in if you'd like, and Mark is willing to share his information. I'd prefer that location, etc., not be posted on the public sites, but this is exciting! Mary Patricia, as you've probably gathered, was my grandmother. We were very close. Delton was my grandfather. Let me know what you'd like to know... Author: sk1117 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.johnson/308.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Sally Berry! My interest in your family is that I have been working off and on for many years on 5 Billett brothers who came to America. One of them was my great-grandfather, Rudolph, who lived in Alcony, OH. My grandfather was one of his 3 children and ran away from OH because of a wicked step-mother. I have proof from her family that she was a real meanie. Be patient, I'll have a point here soon. Another Billett brother was Leopold, who settled in Dayton, OH and prospered greatly. He married Elizabeth Mentel Weckel who had been married to Mr. Weckel who died in the Civil War. Leopold was in the shoe business with Mr. Weckel and when he came back from the Civil War he married the widow Weckel. One of his daughers was Frances - called Fannie. She married Addison E. Martin. This is where you and yours come in. Therefore Leopold and Rudolph kept in touch as brothers from a foreign land would and they kept in touch after my grandfather fled Ohio and ended up in Kansas (where I still am). My mother, Mae Elizabeth Billett Anderson, kept in touch and Addison E. Martin was one of the ministers who married my parents in Princeton, KS in the Methodist church there. "Uncle" Ad as she always called him and his wife, Fannie Billett Martin stayed in touch with my mother for many years. I began to do my genealogy on my Great-grand father Rudolph Billett but there wasn't much effort to finish that off quickly so I began on the other brothers. Christian Karl who landed in New Orleans with the other brothers, stayed there and prospered in the grocery business. I have also worked on his family and I have met 2 of his descendants - they came to Kansas City for other reasons and we were thrilled to meet each other! Anyway, I got stuck after I located Mary Patricia Martin - in Leopold's branch and have been trying to locate others. That is my story and I'm sticking to it because I've put so much effort into it! I will be happy to share what I have found. I am in the process of putting it on Ancestry Tree as a Private Tree. I want to be able to control who can see it because that's the way I am. No one but family needs to know about me and mine and this way I can also add photos with the confidence that no one will be able to track any of the family. In fact, I haven't even gotten to the Martins yet! My husband was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer almost exactly 2 years ago and this project has helped me have an interest that I can do without neglecting his care.He gets chemotherapy every week and it is beginning to wear him down with the side effects etc. So you see, ask me a question and I can go on forever. My answer though to what I believe was your question was that the well went dry with Diann. Oh, do you know Nancy Festa? She is a Martin and seemed to know quite a bit abt. the younger generations. She lives in CA and is involved with education - abt. to retire. Susan Billett Anderson Kost PS I'll be happy to answer any questions that you have! PPS I have not looked at my notes, this is just out of my memory, so I hope it is accurate! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Only the year is recorded in their records. So, finding an obit for them has not gotten any easier. They have a Patrick Fanning who was buried July 8, 1963 @ St. Joseph's Section E Lot 44 Space 2. They said they had an "obit" that said he died at home but no more info than that. I'm wondering if this was a "funeral notice" and not really an obituary. If anyone can find on obituary for this gentleman with further details, it would be sincerely appreciated. I'm not at all sure if this Patrick is the one I have born in Ireland in the 1870 census. He could be from the 2nd or 3rd generation. If it is him he was 100 years old when he died IF his age in 1870 is close to correct !!! Many thanks in advance for any assistance. 1. [KSJOHNSO] CROOKS Family photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the CROOKS Family of Kansas. The first is a photograph of Cleda CROOKS which was taken at the S. Goodnight Studio in Lawrence, KS. The photograph was likely taken in the 1890's with Cleda noted as age 5 months and 10 days old at the time. In addition to her name and age, someone has written "To my dear Great Grandpa and My Aunt Maggie" on the back of the photograph. The second photograph is identified as Lulu Amanda CROOKS and was taken at the Grover Studio in Olathe, KS. This photograph was probably also taken in the 1890's with Lulu noted as 7 months old at the time. In addition to her name and age, someone has written "Grandpa & Aunt Mag" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Cleda Katherine CROOKS b. 23 Jun 1896 in Baldwin City, KS to parents Edgar Leckey CROOKS and Margaret Jan FLETCHER. She married Arthur John Philip BRUNNER (b. 7 Jul 1896 in Seneca MO) on 6 Jan 1920 in Frederick, OK. Cleda died 19 Jun 1979 in Anaheim, CA. Lulu Amanda CROOKS b. 21 Nov 1897 in Baldwin City, KS to parents Edgar Leckey CROOKS and Margaret Jan FLETCHER. Lulu married Reed Waldo GARMAN on 20 Jun 1924 in Riverside, CA and she died 21 Feb 1978 in Fresno, CA. Census records provide the following information: 1900 census of Palmyra Township, KS: Edgar L. CROOKS, age 31, born Aug 1868, married 5 years, born OH, parents born OH, a Farmer Maggie CROOKS, wife, age 29, born Dec 1870, married 5 years, 2 children/2 living, born KS, parents born PA/VA Cleda CROOKS, dau, age 3, born Jun 1896, born KS Lula CROOKS, dau, age 2, born Nov 1897, born KS 1910 census of Frederick, OK: Edgar L.
