Author: dgoldy1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.johnson/740.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Visit this link at the Johnson County, KS Library. Do a surname search. http://www.jocolibrary.org/default.aspx?id=2168 I took a look and there is no listing for Beulah Haynes. This usually implies one of two things. First she moved and did not update her new address with Social Security. Second, no obituary was published for her. The library index includes all individuals who were residents of Johnson County when they died, and had an obituary published in either the Kansas City, MO TIMES or STAR newspapers. Next approach is to send a request to the Mid Continent Library in Independence, MO. Their Genealogy Dept. has a scrap book of all obituaries published in either the TIMES or STAR from Jan. 1, 1979 to today. If they don't have one either, then most likely she moved out of the area. Visit this link for information on how to request a look up at Mid Continent. All you need is the First and Last name and the SSDI month and year of death. http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/branch/ge/researchpolicy.htm Note that an email address is listed in Item 5. Author: barbwire521 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.johnson/735.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: That is great. I am new to this, and I really appreciate any and all help. I really wish someone would have kept better track on individuals, and they may have, but no one ever said anything or has anything left to show. I really hope I learn more from what you gave me. This is really exciting looking for my ancesters. It is like a puzzle and I am trying desperately to find the pieces before all is forgotten, and then no one will know. I wish I would have asked more questions when I was a child. I never knew my grandparents on my mother's side. They passed when I was very small, so had they been alive when I was growing up, I may have known more than I do. Thank you for your time and help. It is greatly appreciated! Author: dgoldy1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.johnson/735.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: barbwire521 Here are a few resources you might want to check... The Johnson County Central Resource Library has two obituary indexes. The indexes are on line but neither of your Wilsons are included yet. The first index, starting in 1977 if for obituaries of Johnson County residents who had an obituary published in the Kansas City TIMES or STAR newspapers. The second index is for the various newspapers published in the county. It is a work in progress. The City of Spring Hill has had a newspaper for a very long time. They are starting to included that newspaper in the index. Request them to take a look. If they are found in the index you can request a copy of the obituary be transcribed and emailed or mailed via snail mail. Here is the email address... jclref@jocolibrary.org The second resource is Linda Lewis. Over the past few years she and others have visited almost every cemetery in the county and created a new burial index, with photos of the headstones. The last index was published in 1988 by the county Genealogy Society. She knows who to contact for the Spring Hill Cemetery records. She will contact them directly, on your behalf. She will not publish the contact information. The cemetery records should have the burial date. The Spring Hill newspaper was published on Thursday of each week. So the obituary likely as published within a two week period of the burial. Send that date to the library email address above and ask them them to check the Spring Hill newspapers for the obituary. Linda's email address is webmaster@cottonhills.com Put Something the the Subject line such as: Johnson County, KS Cemetery Information Request Or if you are local, go to the library yourself. The indexes are in an old card catalog file, on index cards. The usually give the date the obituary was published and the newspaper name or names. The microfilms are in cabinets right next to the index files. Here is the link to the library home page... They are buried and lived in Springhill. My grandmother, grandfather(LeRoy Walters) and stepfather all passed away the same year, 1955, and I was only three, so I don't remember them. Please help. My mother and her family are all deceased, so I don't know where to find out anything else on them. My grandmother had 8 children with LeRoy Walters. He passed away in a car accident, don't know where, but he is buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery, K.C. on Troost, and I don't know anything about him either. If you could find an obit on him, that would be wonderful too. Ethel was born in 1900 and LeRoy in 1898 or 99. He may have been living in Wyandotte Co. Ks. at the time of his death.
