The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday May 20, 1942 Grace Evelyn DAVIS, daughter of John W. and Sena Davis, was born April 20, 1893 and departed life May 10, 1942. She was married August 12th, 1915, to LeRoy MARTIN. To this union five children were born. She is survived by her husband; 3 sons, Kenneth, U.S. Army, Los Angeles, Calif.; Donald, of Nortonville; Theodore of the home, and two daughters, Betty and Frances of the home; two brothers, Walter Davis, U.S. Army, Victorville, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Lora SMITH, of Valley Falls, Mrs. LaVerne STACY, Bethesda, Maryland, and Miss Gladys Davis of Washington, D.C., and her father, John Davis, and stepmother of Winchester. Preceding her in death were her mother and brother, Wm. Davis, a casualty of World War I. She was converted and became a member of the Christian church at Winchester, Sept. 1, 1909. Funeral services were held at the Winchester Christian church Tuesday afternoon, Alfred E. Webb, Christian pastor, conducted the services. A quartet, Mrs. Zoe Everett, Mrs. McWilliams, Fred Cox and George Lynn, sang two songs, and Mrs. Zoe Everett and Mrs. McWilliams sang one song. Miss Schwalm accompanied. Burial was made in the R.P. cemetery. Her son, Kenneth, who was in camp at San Luis Obispo, Calif., was summoned through the Red Cross and his mother was able to talk to him before her death. He had to ride 80 miles in a jeep. One of her sisters, Mrs. Lora SMITH, of Valley Falls, is in the University of Kansas hospital at Kansas City, where she had undergone an operation on her eyes a few days ago and she has not been told of her sister's death.
