    3. The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday July 16, 1941 Tim Payne, Old Time Resident Dies. Timothy PAYNE, 83, who died Sunday, July 13, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.O. BRANDENBURG, Florence, Colo., was born in Ohio, January 30, 1858. Payne had been in the fire insurance business in Topeka since 1921 when he moved his offices of the Threshermen's Mutual Fire Insurance Co., which he organized and of which he was secretary-treasurer here in Oskaloosa. After 1925 he operated a fire insurance agency until his health failed. He was an ardent church worker, serving as elder for many years. Upon transferring his membership from Oskaloosa to the Third Presbyterian church here he was installed as elder here in April 1928, in which capacity he served for twelve years. Elders of the Third Presbyterian church, who will act as honorary pallbearers are John B. Norton, I. H. Ellenberger, Carl Turner, J.L. Croco, and Garritt Barker. Surviving are a son, William A. Payne of Oskaloosa,; and three daughters, Mrs. J.O. Brandenburg; Mrs. Andrew E. YALE, and Mrs. Merritt YALE of Grinnell; Mrs. H.T. STEVENS, Topeka; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Peebler Funeral Home, North Topeka, with Dr. J.E. Bartholomew officiating. Burial was in the Oskaloosa cemetery.
